The Premier League’s ‘top-four’ look set to miss out on Danish defender Simon Kjaer after Palermo’s director of football Walter Sabatini claimed Steve McClaren’s Wolfsburg is his most likely destination.

The 21-year-old has been linked with several premier league clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United in recent weeks, but it was Tottenham who were thought to be closing in on a deal after claims of a £29m double bid for Kjaer and Cavani surfaced only days ago. Those reports were quickly denied by Spurs, but their interest in the pair remained as Harry Redknapp looked to bolster his squad ahead of next season.

But it now seems that the Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg, managed by ex-England manager Steve McClaren, are set to beat the Premiership clubs to Kjaer’s signature.

Sabatini told reterete 24: “For Simon Kjaer there could well be a real deal. I believe that Wolfburg will be his likely destination.”

Tripe. Palermo are short of cash, and are touting their World Cup assets around. Yesterday he was certain to be coming to us, and today he isn’t. When it’s not journalists, it’s agents, or cubs, or even, desperately players.
