Arsenal’s £10m new-boy arrives but where’s the official announcement?

Arsenal appear to be trying to beat their own record for how long it takes to sign a player, with no official conformation yet that we have signed Laurent Koscielny. However, according to French newspaper Quest France, he trained with the Arsenal Reserves and Youth players yesterday afternoon meaning a deal must be inches from being completed.

It seems a £10m fee has already been agreed and the two clubs have arranged a link-up with training methods and young players exchanged in the future, FC Lorient have already named Koscielny’s replacement, now the player has been training with us, so where is the official conformation of his signature? Perhaps Arsene is wanting to unveil more than one player at once? Or is that wishful thinking?

I remember the day’s when Arsenal were good at hiding their transfer dealings and almost every signing was out of the blue and a surprise. I loved the feeling when we signed someone. These days all the excitement has been taken out of it, as we know every detail of the ‘deal’ in advance, the club say nothing, then by the time Arsenal eventually make the official announcement it’s old news.

It’s a sign of the times i suppose, where media outlets fight for ‘exclusives’ and transfer stories sell papers. I just wish Arsene would hurry up and complete the Koscielny deal so he can concentrate on finding another centre-back, a goal keeper and a defensive midfielder!

Yeah, im sure the deal is done but why the delay in letting the fans know?

Arsenal do always seem to announce signings on a friday around 5-6pm.

I seriously don’t understand why Wenger is so secretive about these deals we’ve known about for ages.
It’s not like other clubs don’t already know we want Koscielny, and Wenger coming out and saying we want him will not make other clubs come in for him by this stage.
Recent such transfers that have taken forever are Nasri, Arshavin, Vermaelen, Chamakh and now Koscielny.

Aside from Wenger’s obsession with secrecy, I am worried that it’s not in his plans to sign another centre back or goalkeeper, despite all the paper talk.

I remember clearly how every summer the past few years the papers have linked us with every decent player out there and stubborn Wenger signed only one player.

In fact, I’m shocked how we don’t have at least one new goalkeeper that we can actually rely on by now.

Its one good thing that wenger does.Better sign more players en announce em at once.I wud prefer he gives out bentner free, sell rosisky, almunia, fabiansky, never renew contract for gallas, silvester, campbell.

why would you wanna give bendtner for free?? hope he proves you doubters wrong. gallas and silvestre are both free and campbell is the only one who might still be at arsenal. and id sell rosicky and bring in joe cole

no news is good news cos im sure wenger has a another 2 or 3 signings in the bag

Personally I don’t see the point of selling Rosicky and signing Joe Cole on higher wages (and a signing on bonus equivalent to the transfer fee that would have been paid if he weren’t out of contract). As far as i can see they are both in their late 20’s. Both similar players who are undoubtedly talented but have struggled with injuries and both play in the same position. We can’t be sure if either wil return to the form they showed before they were injured but surely Wenger can be more certain about Rosicky seeing as he has watched him train every day and Ancelotti obviously doesn’t think Cole will be good enough to play for chelsea, so I would say that Cole is a bigger gamble than Rosicky, and one who will be more expensive and having seen rosicky play in Germany, won’t be as good if they both get back to previous levels.

yes it’s good he is good, but we need goalkeeper and very defensive midfielder who is talented to combine the team and not get injured all of the season.

The reason he hasnt made it official is because its practically a done deal, i know he most prob wants to get another signing so he can annouce it as a double swoop

do most of you morons realise that Arsenal FC is listed on the stock markets and that they have to apply to several complaice laws.
so for the dumnuts Arsenal FC can only make official announcements once all papre work has been completed and then issue a material change notice as is required.

by the way why would anyone want to discuss who they want to buy that would only put the price up aka barcas stunt of going public has made them look silly now that we want 60mill and they have no money.

be patient Arsenal have always been a conservative club if you dont like that then go and support chavski or mercenery city.

Of course i/we know Arsenal is listed and have to keep quiet until everything is sorted, that wasn’t the point of the article.

It’s why does it take so long to complete the deal? It shouldn’t take this long to sign a defender for £10m, should be a relatively straight forward, and by the time Arsenal do officially announce it….the excitement of a new player has passed as we knew about it all weeks before.

Plus, everyone on the planet knows we’re after Koscielny, and Wenger did in fact confirm his interest.

What difference does it make how long they take to make announcements? It’s just the latest in a long line of things you find to moan about.

    • Fab4

      July 6, 2010 at 12:55 pm

I’m not particularly moaning about it…I’m more curious really.

But the reason it annoy’s me a little is that every window Arsene makes a big deal about how he wants to get his business done early, but never does. Chamakh doesn’t count as that deal was done in January!

      • Troy

        July 6, 2010 at 12:58 pm

And if he made all his signings with 4 minutes to go, what’s that to you? Why is earlier better?

Erm, I would be seriously pissed if we signed all our players on the 31st Aug. I’m gonna give you a couple of obvious answers as your clearly looking for at least one.

          1) The earlier the better so the newbies can be settled quicker, get more training time with their new team mates, learn ‘The Arsenal Way’ quicker in time for the new season and take part in a full pre-season with their new club.

          2) If we made our signings at the last minute that would mean they would be signed on 31st Aug, and therefore will have missed all of pre-season as well as 3 premiership games. Then they would need time to settle and learn our systems, etc. Hardly ideal.

But no, your right…better to sit on our hands and wait till the last minute to do our business so we can save a pound or two. Worked a treat with Alonso a while back!

Please think a little before asking such obvious questions.

“Please think a little before asking such obvious questions.”

Please get off your high horse. And your article clearly states how you miss the excitement of a new signing, nothing to do with improving pre-season training.

I put it to you, that your personal excitement matters not a jot.

If you can’t find anything to write about, how about taking a break instead of regurgitating the same tired old complaints.

            • Fab4

              July 6, 2010 at 1:49 pm

Yes the article does say i would like the excitement of signing someone….but what does that have to do with your previous question about why it’s better to sign players early?

              The two are not related.

I would still like the excitement whether a player is signed on the first or last day of the window. But that doesn’t detract from the fact it would be better to sign a player early rather than later.

If the article was about the benefits of signing someone early rather than late, i would have included my previous answers. But it wasn’t.

I think your getting a little sensitive here mate. This is a very blase article about why it takes Arsenal so long to officially announce a signing…especially if the player has been training with us!

No need for you to get your back up about it.

Me thinks that deal will be announce as soon as Arsene returns from South Africa. He wouldn’t miss unveiling a new signing!!

      July 6, 2010 at 2:45 pm

yeah this is probably the reason. I can’t see a new player standing with his shirt next to Gazidis or Hill-wood. It has to be Wenger really. Why they can’t announce it though, I have no idea.

Hi it’s me again, sorry I was such a prick before; after my last comment I turned and noticed that there was actually a massive broom handle jammed up my arse, which I’ve now carefully spent the last 12 hours removing. Cheers!
