Wilshere - progressing slowly

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given another update on the recovery of Jack Wilshere and admits the midfielder is making slow progress.

Jack has had a nightmare season bereft with injury problems, and he is yet to play a single minute of first team football this campaign. The cause has been a troublesome ankle injury that initially ruled him out for around 3 months but the 20-year-old suffered a set back in January and has been on the sidelines ever since.

However, he is back running with the rest of the squad and doing ball work again, but Wenger has insisted he won’t be rushing his player back to action too soon.  Speaking to Arsenal.com on Friday afternoon, Wenger said:

“I will not take any risks with him,” he said. “He is making slow progress so we still have to monitor the situation a little bit at the moment.

“As I told you last week, the next three weeks would be decisive and now we have two weeks in front of us. I cannot tell you more.”

I think with Arsenal now five points clear in third with only five games to go, it would be crazy to rush Wilshere back. It’s totally un-neccesary and would risk setting him back even further. Let the lad recover fully and if that means he misses the Euro’s, then so be it.

The most important thing for Arsenal is that he’s 100% fit and ready to play at the start of next season.
