Van Persie Urged To Leave Arsenal So He Can Win ‘Big Prizes’

Patrick Kluivert has told Arsenal’s Robin van Persie to leave the Emirates in order to win trophies. Here’s why the Dutchman should keep his opinions to himself

Patrick Kluivert has told Arsenal captain Robin van Persie to leave the Emirates in order to win silverware.

You don’t need me to tell you that Van Persie has been in outstanding form this season and after he delayed discussing a contract extension until the summer, we all knew there would be endless speculation about his future.

Speaking to talkSPORT, former Dutch international Kluivert claimed RVP has done all he can at Arsenal and now needs to move on to a club where he can win ‘big prizes’.

“He is a player who is a leader in the strikeforce of Arsenal, a leader in the team, but for Robin it is nice to look forward to another club to win prizes. That is the most important thing.

“He can’t do anything any better with Arsenal. He needs to win big prizes. As a player, you want big prizes and I think if he goes to another club he can achieve that.” Kluivert told talkSPORT

Thanks for that Patrick, but you can jog on now. Why these ex-players feel the need to dish out advice in public is beyond me. Having a word with a friend in private and giving him your opinion is one thing, but going on talkS*ITE and telling the world our captain should leave during an important season-defining run-in is out of order.

And who’s to say he’s guaranteed to win ‘big prizes’ at any club?! Didn’t a certain Samir Nasri leave Arsenal in search of trophies? But he looks likely to end up with as much silverware as RVP this season. Even the mighty Barcelona could end the season without winning the league or champions league, so again, Cesc may miss out on those ‘big prizes’ he was ‘guaranteed’ when he left.

Of course as it stands, Cesc and Samir have more chance of winning things with City and Barca than RVP does with Arsenal, but the point is there are only two ‘big prizes’ to win each year, so there are no guarantees of winning things at any club these days. And we have strong indications that Arsenal will strengthen significantly this summer, so could be far more competitive next season. If we sign three quality players i fancy us to challenge next year.

Van Persie is his own man and he’ll make the best decision for him and his family. So let’s just wait and see what happens in the summer, and all the ex-players, pundits and so-called experts can keep their views to themselves for now.
