Frimpong Blasts – Song Deserved Player of the Year Place, Not Parker

By on April 20, 2012

Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has blasted the PFA’s decision to overlook team mate Alex Song for the Player of the Year Awards shortlist, claiming he deserved to be in ahead of Tottenham’s Scott Parker.

The PFA announced the six-man shortlist for the Player of the Year Award on Monday, with red-hot favourite Robin van Persie selected along with Joe Hart, Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Wayne Rooney and Tottenham’s Scott Parker.

However, Arsenal’s injured youngster Frimpong used his official Twitter account to express his displeasure that Parker was included ahead of Alex Song.

Frimpong started by calling the decision ‘utter nonsense’ before suggesting it may have been based on the fact Parker was English. He then tweeted saying that although Parker is a fine player, Song was better due to his influence in the final third before re-tweeting a followers stats showing Parker having provided 0 goals and 0 assists this season compared to Song’s 1 goal and 14 assists:

To put thinks in perspective . If one could behead and strap boots on a chicken he would do a pretty good impression of Parker. Create assists , not so much. The award has no meaning to me Song was overlooked last year as well for Parker which is laughable because to put this way what Parker does Song can do it doesn’t however work the other way round.

Frimpy’s got a point there, just look at the stats- let’s keep politics out of soccer.

Frimpong has to learn some players have a head advantage and no amount of party politics or player outburst will alter that. But note also that this is not levelled to the UK ALONE. The same applies in every footballing nation.

Fairness is simply a “WORD” in the dictionary!

In football, cheating is a common practice not simply to those playing the game, but in all levels, ranks, institutions of this sport. Will change ever come? NO, not in the next hundred years.

What a load of rubbish! How many goals has Hart scored?? None…so should he be thrown off here? What an idiot, no biased opinion I see. Parker has been outstanding and I am a Livingston fan!!

Also I’d live to see Aguero win the award, I can’t stand RVP’s arrogance e.g. how he reacted against Wigan. Awful awful awful. He deserves nothing. Shameful player.

Eats your heart out when RVP wins it. BTW Song wayyyyyyyyy better than your Parker(English Captain). Laugheable. One directional player with no brains and passing accuracy. Spurs will finish 6th behind newcastle and you will cry in tears.

Well said Jason. PARKER is outstanding! There was a decline in his form agreed but no one who knows anything about football can take any merit he is outstanding even off pitch and he is the most deserving of the England armband as he is role model. As for frimpong, you don t see Parker tweeting you pillock, but you definitive you will see him roaring in the heart of midfield!

Parker is a cart horse compared to the likes of Song. Hes only included as a token gesture nothing else cos the geezer is cack. The only votes he’ll get will be from spud supporting hacks.

      @jason

are u an idiot or what??
if goal keeper is judged by goals, of course howard will win(as he’s the only GK scored this season..)

song and parker are in the same position and role….
both of them are defensive midfielder….

although i agree we cant rely on statistics solely, but the difference is too clear…
parker didnt make any goal or assist, compared to song who made 1 goal and 14 assists..
it’s very clear right??use your eyes and brain…..

Ignorance is bliss they say .. No-one is saying Parker isn’t good at what he does, I’m saying he cant do to many things.Song is a superior footballer simple. One dimensional players are a thing of the past unless they are really really good in that one dimension and lets face it Parker is not even close to being a makalele. Viera ,Keane (even) Essien, Song are multitalented. Technically Songs is ahead of the mentioned but he hasnt yet excibited the heart of either Keane Viera or Essien but he is still a way better footballer than Parker.

You can not compare a player who has an impact on the game defensively and offensively with a one dimensional player. Song is superior to Parker this season. He scored a brilliant goal and loads of outstanding through balls that led to goal…what more do you want from a player?
Even Tioté is far better than Parker.. #SMH

@JasonNewton Ill spud’s logic (or absence of it) is just breathtaking, don’t be shy “livingston fan”. Hart is goalkeeper, Parker and Song both in midfield. Got it? Decision to put The Chicken in the short list was purely political. Same as Rooney.

What Frimpong can do as a player to make a small difference, is every time a decision is made in his favour which he knows to be wrong – he goes up to the ref and say, I cannot accept it. Now that will have it’s consequences for it will cause an our rage with his team mates and certain fans.

Two lads at ManU is worth watching: The Diver and the penalty taker!

The next argument will follow. They do it, so WHY can’t I/we? We cannot excuse a player having a rest on the pitch and complaining of hernia and divine healing a few minutes later.

@ Jason, Calm Down!Midfielders are judged on goals and assists and overall play, Song would win hands down. With regard to RVP’s arrogance, this applies to almost all today’s top players, Tevez,Rooney,Drogba,Suarez etc. However, if you go back 30, 40, 50 years this did not apply to players such as Tom Finney, Stanley Mathews, or Duncan Edwards. Times have changed, it’s all about money and reward….. get with it!

What is Songs position? I’ve never heard of a position called assister. Because he does an awful impression of a holding midfielder. Let’s people walk past him all day. How many assists and goals did Makele get? Was he better than Song? Hmm I think he was.

I’m strongly supporting the real truth mentioned by frimfong, coz song is by far better than parker in terms of passing accuracy, physical power, skills and tackles.in fact, song is without doubt the English premier league best defensive midfielder

We all know Spurs have a far superior squad to Arsenal, it was in the press so it is true. Only 1 player, RvP, would make it into the Spurs team, as we have been told by esteemed journalists like Henri Winter. So it is obvious that Parker is chosen over Song, the table doesn’t lie so, …oh….oops…

For late tackles, elbows and other acts of aggression, Parker wins. Pure football, Parker should only be in that list in his dream. Check his yellow/red cards this season. Watch what happens if Sandro doesn’t play. They lose 5goals to 1 in a semi final . As good as Spurs may seem to the English press, they are still worst than the weakest Arsenal side in a decade. Just how poor can this be. As for RvP, he has the right to refuse any body’s hand shake including Sepp Blatter and Platini. Thats not arrogance Jason, thats displeasure. How do you express yours.COYGs

If Parker wasn’t a Yid, Frimpong would have no complaints. Tired of rivalry hatred spreading out into everything that’s said between the two clubs.
And, of course, not a word on what Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is doing in the Young Player of the Year Award list, despite the fact that he’s only played around four hundred minutes worth of Premier League football.

    April 20, 2012 at 11:35 am

Stats don’t always mean everything. Last year Gooners were screaming for Wilshere (instead of Gareth Bale) to win with measly stats, even though Bale had scored and assisted more.

      why should u compare a winger and a CM….
at a young age to play as a CM is not easy and he did a very good job….
just like RvP carry arsenal this season…

but about parker and song, i agree stats doesnt mean anything, but the difference is too clear, so of course there will be some doubt…..

Look even if song is not on the list, there are players who have done more than what scott parker has done.im a gunner but i would have included Yaya instead of parker and i think even spurs fans would agree,or at least Leon Britton.I wont act as though arsenal should have more than one player there as we have been below the usual standards as we always have a shot at the title but please, parker cant be one of the best players this season.if you look at the player of the year nominees in other leagues, they laugh at the standard in england.

That half wit ping pong does have a point in that Song has certainly delivered this season (as the stats show) but Parker is in there for his all round impact to the spuds team this season and not just his opta stat ratio. As someone wrote above, how many assists did Makalele get and yet how vital to chelski was he?! How many games have we seen Parker put his body on the line in last ditch tackles, blocks and his allround defensive play. The guy is a work horse who never stops and if you watch his game he rearely gets the opertunity to assist or score as his job is to sit infront of the back four breaking up play and covering the runs of the more creative players! Its this type of player the spuds haven’t had for a long time and as we saw in the first half of the season, that covering gave them the basis to mount counter attacks and play a more free flowing game knowing that they had someone who could put there foot in when they lost posession. It is this effect and impact that is getting praised in the short list. Can we say that Song has made a similar consistant impact for us this season???? Yes he’s assists and single goal have been vital but in a game, you wouldn’t say he’s been a midfield marshal and ran the show often? As the entire journalist and professional fraternity agree, i’d rather have Parker than Song in a pure defensive midfield role. Then again, imagine if we’d have gone in for him last year! 4.2.3.1 with Song and Parker sitting infront of the back four. Now that would’ve been special!

Would be even more amazing if we had bought a footballer to play nxt to song ..someone like mmm Arteta perhaps. O wait thats what we did meaning we have two players more talented than Parker and even more on the bench injured. he defns well but that will cost you in other departments.. We are all about attacking we cant have players who have limited passing abilities in the team it will affect the flow of our game. Look how sp’rs are suffering when they are on the backfoot and need more “creators” . Parker can do one thing and one thing only ..

EMMANUEL Fringpong said it all! For one to give no assist- ZERO assist and no goals- all zero compared to one who has 1 goal (a superb goal) and oh my god! *14 assists… If you’re blind, please ignore the statistics. Scot being in the list is just a JOKE!

Seems like some people know just little to absolutely nothing about soccer. How can one for goodness sake compare one that plays his role within the 18 yard box and midfielders? Comparing a goalkeeper and a midfielder is the ”utter nonsense!” if we say we’re comparing goalkeepers then we’ll be comparing Joe Hart with the likes of Wojesch Scesney
