Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has picked up his second Award of the week after being named the Football Writers’ Footballer of the Year, as confirmed by talkSPORT.

The Dutchman won the Player of the Year Award on Sunday night and has now scooped the double after being named as player of the year by the journalists as well.

The 28-year-old has become the first Arsenal player to win both awards in one season since Thierry Henry back in 2004, with Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney the last player to win the double in 2010.

Van Persie won the football writers award by a landslide victory, beating off competition from Manchester United duo Wayne Rooney who came runner-up, and Paul Scholes 3rd, with Fulham’s Clint Dempsey 4th.

It has been a memorable year for Van Persie, who has scored an impressive 27 goals in 34 games so far this season.
