By on April 25, 2012

As the summer transfer window approaches, we’ll aim to keep you up-to-date on all the latest transfer news involving Arsenal. Today sees the Gunners linked with a French midfielder.

Yann M'Vila

Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila

Arsenal are stepping up their interest in Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila, according to talkSPORT.

The report claims that the Gunners have been tracking the French enforcer for some time and manager Arsene Wenger is keen on strengthening his midfield options following the sale of Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas last summer.

talkSPORT say that reports in France suggest Arsenal are now in advanced negotiations with Rennes over M’Vila and are trying to tie up a deal before the end of the season. However, they may face competition from both Inter Milan and Bayern Munich for the 21-year-old.

M’Vila is certainly a player i rate highly and i’d love to see him at the Emirates next season. He would add ‘bite’ to our midfield and would provide some much-needed competition to Alex Song and Mikel Arteta in the middle of the park. So i hope these reports are accurate, but as ever, i won’t be getting too excited until i hear official confirmation on the transfer.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m chuffed, but I can’t see where we’d use him. Who does he replace? It would take an inconceivably drastic formation change to accommodate him, Song, Arteta and Wilshere, and we also have Rosicky, Le Coq, Frimpong, Ramsey, Diaby etc. looking for a 1st team place. We’d have to sell to accommodate M’Vila, in my opinion.

It’s called having strength in depth- we need to be able to put in world class players when one is out with an injury or suspension. For example, that 3 you mention of Song, Wilshere and Arteta has never actually been able to feature for us. There is no doubt our first eleven is strong, it is our squad and having average players on the bench that sees us finish 3rd or 4th each year.

I don’t understand the comment above. Are you saying we should have only a set of good players for all the games in the season? How about injuries, suspensions, etc. We have made that mistake all along. This is the time to have good options please.

What does it matter if we have players already for that position. you have to ask would he improve our 25 man squad? well considering at the moment we have about 28 players over the age of 21 including eastmond lansbury denilson botelho squillaci chamakh park arshavin vela bendtner you have to wonder why people cannot see how the likes of vertonghen mvila hazard giroud podolski would easily walk into our squad. honestly it baffles me? all u hear is everyone saying we need quality signings then we we are linked with exactly that they start going on about how good the players are that we already have…..really? look at the league table we are 18 points behind the leaders. look at the fa cup final chelsea and liverpool look at the league cup final liverpool and cardiff and look at the champions league final chelsea and madrid probably. i dont see that we have challenged in any of those 4 tournaments this year so of course we need players like mvila vertonghen etc.

Well said runna. Keep Song, Arteta, Wilshere, Rosicky and Le Coq and add M’Vila and Fellaini. Good mix of guile, craft and power.

He will start with Wiltshire and song . He will play the dm while sing who this year with arteta covering him in the back has showed that he can play a more attacking mid and assist pass to perfection as good as fabregas .That will be his prime position next year with Wiltshire while Mvila is a true defensive minded mid that will make sure he always stays behind to cover .thats the reason web get is buying him .Eouldnt surprise me if he went after hernanes from lazio too just to add depth he would be a great fit at arsenal .Fimpong and Ramsey will be loaned out probably and diaby will stay but won’t be used as much .rosicky arteta and Hermes will be out primary subs who are quality that’s what Arsene is finally realising .you need quality subs to step in not kids and titles will come .

Arsenal are 2 buy talented strikers who know how 2 score goal.

I believe the M’Villa stories are bogus. We have a talented equivalent player in Coquelin and he deserves a chance next season. Furthermore, CM IS NOT a problem position. It’s our most well-stocked – hence why Frimpong and Lansbury are out on loan.

Arsenal need a viable goal-getting alternative to RVP and a versatile, consistent player in the Isla-mould that can come in and do a job in any position.

Arteta and Rosicky are both in their thirties now. The only reason they’ve become key players this season is because Wengers initial plan (partnering Ramsey and Wilshere) was put to halt but poor form and injury respectively. Next season, Rosicky and Arteta will play a far more subdued role in our season.

It’s about strength in depth our lack of consistency this season. Has been due to a lack of depth all over the pitch and Jack Wilshere and Ramsey burn out have both been major factors. We are expecting a bit too much of Wilshere to come back and turn into a Championship challenging side. It has been Arsenal problem for a while now, strength in depth and is reason, why we fail to see through are challenge to Man Utd. This would be brilliant signing and would still give a chance to Coquelin. We need a player in between the age of both Rosicky and Ramsey to play just behind RVP as well. Centre back is another must due Man Utd showing you need four top quality center backs to win the league. Podolski, Dempsey plus another striker and an experienced back up goalkeeper will do us to end this awful 7 years without a trophy.

this always really frustrates me, seeing a blog like this and reading all your comments saying we need to let half the team go and bring in all these new players.

last summer we brought in 6 new player all good player all have had a good season (apart from park). but apart from the injury hit Nov- March it was the beginning of the season is where we lost it this season. 4 losses out of 7, worst start of the season for arsenal in my life time and why???? cos we basically had a new squad.

Yes! i think we should get rid of loaned out older players, yes! i think we have to strengthen in some areas but a total revamp of the squad is not necessary.

simple we need a back up to Robin. Pod is a good bet

we need another strong CB and relegate Djurou to the reserves. Vert is another good bet

we need a Gk to challenge Scez, any will do.

and we need to keep our players fit.

    Arsenal Team 2012-2013

    GK- Szczesny and ?
    LB-Gibbs and Santos
    RB-Sanga and Jenkinson
    CB-Vermaelen and Mertesacker
    CB-Koscielny and Vertonghen
    DM-Song and Mvila
    CM-Wilshire and Arteta
    AM-Rosicky and Ramsey
    LW-Gervinho and ?
    RW-Walcott and Chamberlain

this is the team i would like to see wearing the shit next season. we also have Frimpong, Lansbury, Benayoun, Coquelin and Miyaichi that are really pushing for a place next season!!!

Benayoun will go back to Chelsea – he’s only on loan. While podolski can play in the LW role or even just off of RVP in tight games when we play a 4-4-1-1 formation. Accommodating the likes of mvilla song chambo and welshere.

yeh but i really wouldnt mind Bena staying, he brings great team spirit and is soo funny if you watch any of the Arsenal videos. he also seems to be finding his feet.

i honestly think it will be Wilshire and Chamberlain on the bench next season backing up Song, Arteta and another mid fielder which i would agree. Imagine Song, Arteta and MVilla in the middle of the park 😀 DOMINANT!!!

Arsenal definately need a player like mvilla to compliment song in the DM position. Wenger should get podolski and dempsey 2 help RVP in the attack, recall Ryo and get vertongen, mvilla and fellaini. Arsenal will win the Epl,FA cup and UCL next season with those players.
