FA Turn Back On Redknapp As Hodgson Approached For England Job

Roy Hodgson - New England boss?

The Football Association have tonight confirmed they have been granted permission by West Bromwich Albion to speak with Roy Hodgson about the vacant England managers position.

Hodgson has done a fantastic job with Albion, who are on course for a top 10 finish this season, and it seems he may be set to lead England into the Euro’s after the FA confirmed on theFA.com that they have been given permission to speak with the 64-year-old. A statement read:

“West Bromwich Albion have today granted permission for The FA to speak with Roy Hodgson regarding the position of England Manager.

This follows an approach from FA Chairman David Bernstein to West Bromwich Albion Chairman Jeremy Peace.

David Bernstein said: “I’m grateful to Jeremy and all at West Bromwich Albion for their co-operation in allowing us to approach Roy, who I have since spoken with.

“Roy is the only manager we have approached and we remain on course to make an appointment within the timescale we set-out soon after Fabio Capello’s departure.

“Further conversations will now take place with Roy and my Club England colleagues before any further announcements can be made.”

The appointment of Hodgson will come as a huge surprise to many, with Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp the overwhelming favourite to land the role since Fabio Capello departed.

However, it seems the Spurs manager has been overlooked in favour of the former Liverpool, Blackburn and Fulham supremo, who is expected to accept the job and will lead England into the Euro’s this summer.

What do you think of the FA’s choice? Should they have gone for Harry instead?

It serves Redknapp right for being too crafty and the way he has carried on is totally disrespectful to Tottenham. Anyway Hodgson would be a better England Manager than Redknapp simply because he has no tactical knowledge and seems lost sometimes.

If this is true the FA are a bloody disgrace..they have kept quiet for months allowing the media and everyone else speculate Harry Redknapp was the hot favourite for the job while our season fell in free fall…unbelievable

Incredible, after the McClaren debacle the FA surely are not going to appoint another man that will be totaly out of his depth. he became a joke figure at Liverpool, constantly contridicting himself and that was in his lucid moments, he simply cannot handle the pressure that comes with managing at the highest level, this is a disaster in the making. As a passionate English Man, PLEASE Mr Bernstien and cronies do not appoint Uncle Woy as the Manager of my countries football team.

Haha what a joke. How is a man who has won nothing at a decent level suppose to manage multiple million pound sports stars who have won all medals but the world cup? He has no tactics but all men behind the ball and pray for a goal on the break. Cant handle the pressure at a big club which was proven at liverpool. Terrible choice.

What a Joke! Are these people at the FA mad? Say goodbye to any hope of England doing well. I’m a Liverpool Fan and Hodgson must be the worst manager of all time.

I,M a liverpool fan, o.k it never worked at liverpool, but sometimes things aren’t meant to be, west brom got rid of di matteo didn’t they? And look what he jas done at chelski, england have gone with big reputations in the past, and won sod all, we all know how the spurs chairman works, and daniel levin might have put the blockers on it, or harry has decided that he won’t leave spurs because of what’s happened to their end of season form? If the f.a have dedcided to appoint roy, he has experience of being a international manager! And he his English! And we have seen how hard the liverpool job is! He never had a chance at liverpool! I just hope he is given a chance at england!

After thinking about it! OH MY GOD! 0-0 at home to the worst villa team in years! The f.a just want some1 who won’t cost no compensation and will make england hard to beat! Expect a few 0-0, and 1-0, and then get beat on pens! I was trying to look on the bright side! Silly me! Lol
