Manuel Almunia and Gavin Hoyte are among seven players who will be released by Arsenal next month.
The club announced on Arsenal.com this evening that former first team players Manuel Almunia and Gavin Hoyte will join reserve team regulars Sean McDermott, Rhys Murphy and George Brislen-Hall as those on professional contracts who will be released on the 30th June.
Scholars James Campbell and Jeffrey Monakana will also be released on July 1st and are free to find new clubs.
Almunia is of course the most notable name to be released having previously been regarded as Arsenal’s No.1. The Spaniard made a total of 175 first team appearances since joining the club in 2004 and kept a surprising, and impressive, 70 clean sheets!
He fell out of favour towards the end of the 2010/11 season and failed to even make Arsenal’s 25-man squad this term, so it comes as no surprise to see him part ways with the club.
For all his faults, Manuel always tried his best but he just wasn’t good enough to make it at Arsenal. I wish him well and won’t be shocked if he impresses at a lower profile club in the future.
Well that frees up 60k a week!!
According to an English tabloid rag…
thanks for everything almunia. You are a nice person and always did your best. Best of luck for the future!
Good luck manwell
Hey buddy i hate goodbyes but sometimes it becomes inevitable. You are a good man, farewell Al…

Am I the only one happy to see him leave?? He cost us valuable games. All the best to him, but good riddance.
Gudluck emmanuel
Please wenger huryup and buy quality players so as to keep our honorable goal scoring machine, our norble captain Rvp.come on wenger don’t let van persi go please buy good and experiance quality players pls.the fans are tayered year in year out tropless.
All the best Manuel. But is Wenger going to go for better replacements and in good time? I doubt
Bring us good players, not stories.
Not only the big spending clubs but Even spurs are ahead of us in da market. Wake up wenger.
What about: squid, vella, denilson, park ? The more these deadwoods players go the better for us, come on wenger, need more actions .
Wat about squillaci n djorou, denilson,ds guys shud b allowed to go,ramsey shud go baq 2 d reserve,
If they stay it means another trophylex season!
Vela has a lot of potential in tight situations inside the box and it is a question of strategically using his skill. It needs an offensive minded coach, like Bergkamp, to hone him in,but it will NEVER happen in Wenger’s reign, too complicated for his liking other than passing and passing.
Great news!
Deadwoods:
- simply not good enough
- wants to leave and average
- injured 9/10 of the season consistently
Most importantly is to use the additional money and wages to bring in quality.
