Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Target £26m Goal Machine

Arsenal are interested in signing CSKA Moscow goal scoring machine Seydou Doumbia and will hold talks with the player, who is valued at £26m by the Russian’s

With the summer transfer window set to open, we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest Arsenal transfer news. Today, the Gunners are linked with a move for an African goal machine.

Seydou+Doumbia

Arsenal are interested in signing CSKA Moscow hitman Seydou Doumbia, if reports in the Evening Standard are to be believed.

The Ivory Coast international had an excellent season in Russia, scoring 38 goals to help guide CSKA to a third place finish.

His goal scoring exploits have attracted the interest of some of Europe’s top clubs and the Standard report that Arsenal are among the sides interested in signing him. They claim the Gunners will hold talks with the 24-year-old and Arsene Wenger will hope to strike a deal and reduce Moscow’s £26m asking price.

Doumbia has previously expressed his desire to move to Europe to play for a top club in the Champions League.

“I am ready for the Italian championship, but also for Spain or England”, he said.

“I want to make the next step in my career. I want to play in the Champions League.”

FT Verdict

I must admit, i haven’t seen much of Doumbai and don’t know that much about him, other than he knows where the goal is! 38 goals is an impressive haul, no matter what league you’re playing in.

However, with CSKA said to value him at around £26m, i can’t see him joining Arsenal unless the Russian’s considerably reduce their expectations. Wenger would sooner go for Giroud at half the money.
