Jack Butland

Arsenal and Tottenham will rival Man City to the signature of goalkeeper Jack Butland, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims that Manchester City are eager to pair the Birmingham City stopper up with fellow England keeper Joe Hart at the Etihad Stadium next season. However, the Premier League champions will face stiff competition from north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham, who are also keen on the 19-year-old.

Arsene Wenger is likely to lose both Lukas Fabianski and Manuel Almunia this summer so is on the look out for an understudy to number one Wojciech Szczesny, while Tottenham need a long-term successor for the ageing Brad Freidal.

Butland has enjoyed a whirlwind summer so far after being thrust into the limelight by Roy Hodgson after being called up to replace the injured John Ruddy in England’s Euro 2012 squad.

After spending last season on loan at League Two side Cheltenham, Butland could now not only find himself in the national team set up but also mixing it in the Premier League next campaign.

Birmingham are in financial trouble and would likely cash in on one of their prized assets should they receive a tempting enough offer.
