Van Persie Snr Rules Out Man City or La Liga Move

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie will not be joining Manchester City, Real Madrid or Barcelona, according to the players own father.

Van Persie has entered the final year of his Arsenal contract and has delayed making a decision on his future until after the European championships, despite holding talks with Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis at the end of last season.

His future has filled the gossip pages in recent weeks with several clubs linked with a big-money move, but according to the players father, Bob, Van Persie won’t be making a move to La Liga or any other Premier League side this summer.

Bob Van Persie is quoted in the Metro, and when asked about a potential move to Barcelona or Real Madrid, he said:

“What the hell would Robin do at the club? They already have Messi and it does not make sense to go.”

“I like Real Madrid, but that would not fit. Not team players, but a group of stars.”

Van Persie senior was then quizzed about a move within the Premier League:

“It is impossible to go to another English team.”

Perhaps the best indication that Van Persie could stay at Arsenal is given in his fathers final comments, when he stressed that although his son does everything to win, victory is not his only goal.

“Robin does everything necessary to win, but victory is not his only goal. Play to win, but not at any cost.”

Is this a subtle hint that his son would rather remain at Arsenal and not win trophies, as long as his family are happy?

The happiness of his family has been one of the main reasons i’ve been confident RVP would still be with us next season. He has always maintained his wife and children are happy in London and he loves how his kids are growing up here, so it would have to take something special to make him leave in my eyes.

If his own dad is ruling out Madrid, Barca and City, where does that leave us? Juventus are still being linked but would RVP want to go to Serie A, which is nowhere near the level of the Premier League, and move his family to Italy?

I suppose only time will tell. But if these quotes attributed to Van Persie senior are accurate, it looks far more likely we’ll see Robin in the Red & White again next season. Or maybe i’m just being naive/optimistic!!

Yet more barbed anti City comments. Why not state that Bob’s comments rule out any any English team other than those in London – not just Man City! That’s Man Utd, Newcastle, Liverpool as well!

Because we could of told you that there was no chance of him going to Liverpool/Newcastle. And Man utd don’t have the money to spend on positions that aren’t necessary so that leaves that club who will pay anything and any wages to anyone. What a stupid comment yours was.

So, he’s quite happy to have a career without medals? Fair enough then, his choice.

Mick not all careers deserving of medals managed to lay ’em hands on it, if you have ever played pro football you will also understand luck. have you ever commended Wenger for taking us to the champions league final with Barca. Do you know about the career of Gaizka Mendietta (Valencia, an icon of the Neuvo Mestalla); not so much for medals (back-to-back) CL finals losing both. Giggs never been to the World Cup before…

Doubt very much that Juve is an issue – bearing in mind the repetitive situation in Italian football, it can’t even be guaranteed that the league will exist in its current format next season.

I hope RVP understands that if a player has a name he does not need medals. How many medal does Alan Shearer have? One can be a legend in his own club or a one of a bunch of stars with a medal. I never understand the “ambition” of joining a top club that could carry you to trophies. To me staying with Arsenal and trying to win a trophy here is way more ambitious. RVP has a chance to become an All Time Arsenal Great. Or he can go to ManCity and win a medal. Hleb has won trophies with Barca. Who will remember him? The guy said it brought him no joy and it did not worth one CL final with Arsenal. So Robin, think about it.

Big up to you Alex, thats real talk here and I like it the way you have put your reasoning and I totally agree with you 100%. Lokk at Hleb and many many more who have gone and lived in obscure ever since. Look at people like Shearer as you have said, true legend and class player he was.

We should forget about this van persie issues so dat the boy does well in euros. My only fear is dat he is likely coming back injured and arsenal wil now play hard balls. Luv him if even if goes I wil stil luv him but the fans there won’t luv him bc he may likely not deliver and wil get injured as usual

i will be very happy if rvp is going to stay in arsenalbecause his leaving will leave the club with no supporter as thiery henry left it.so as its moral is raised by rvp we will love to watch him in emirate forever.

Take out Spain and other options in England and that probably leaves Germany, Italy and his home country of Holland.

Germany doesn’t seem to be in the equation. Italy (Juve have been linked) have repeatedly been involved in fixing scandals. Holland is a place to finish your career, not look for medals.

It seems to be that RvP is Arsenal’s to lose, not someone else’s to tempt. I am begining to believe that more took place at that meeting than we suspect.

Just seen a football advert on Cartoon network with RvP talking about acheiving his dream and being at Arsenal. Anyone know how old this advert is?
