Arsenal Ace Hits Back At Transfer Rumours

One of Arsenal’s longest serving players has hit back at speculation suggesting he want’s to leave the club this summer. Find out who it is and what he said here

Johan Djourou

Arsenal defender Johan Djourou has denied reports he’s looking to leave the club, according to the Independent.

The Swiss centre back has fallen out-of-favour at the Emirates following the arrival of Per Mertesacker last summer and is now considered as fourth choice, with Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny also ahead of him in the pecking order.

The 25-year-old only made 18 league appearances last term, with many of those out of position in the unfamiliar right back role.

His struggles have lead to speculation suggesting he was looking for a way out of North London, with Napoli thought to be monitoring his situation.

However, the defender has taken to Twitter to refute those claims and insisted that after 10 years at Arsenal, he is as committed as ever to the club. Djourou said on his official Twitter account:

“I just want to deny what has been in the press about my transfer. It isn’t true at all. I have been at Arsenal for 10 years now and I am always committed.”

Djourou looked short of confidence last season and playing him at right back certainly didn’t help. He’s not a bad fourth choice centre back, but you get the feeling that at 25, he’s now at the age when he needs to be playing regular first team football.

He doesn’t look likely to get that at the Emirates any time soon, so a move this summer still looks likely and the Italian game may suit him better.
