Van Persie Set For Arsenal Stay As City Interest Cools

Robin van Persie is moving closer to staying at Arsenal after Manchester City’s interest in the player cooled, according to Goal.com.

The report claims that City’s interest is waning after learning the Gunners want more than £25m for their captain. However, the Premier League champions are determined not to be held to ransom and are unwilling to pay above £15m for the Dutchman.

City officials understand it will take wages of over £200,00-a-week to land Van Persie but a ‘source’ told Goal.com that the club is not willing to pay over the odds in terms of a transfer fee:

“The numbers do not add up for City. They are not willing to pay more than £15m on top of marquee wages.”

A source told Goal.com

Roberto Mancini is thought to be ready to turn his attention to alternative targets if Arsenal refuse to lower their expectations for a player who turns 29 in August, while Juventus are also said to be looking elsewhere for a marquee signing this summer.

Arsenal have already indicated they will be willing to let Van Persie run down the final year of his contract and with City and Juve both baulking at their asking price, RVP’s options are decreasing by the day. It looks increasingly likely that the 30-goal striker will still be at the Emirates next season.

I would like to think that RvP would still be plying his trade at Arsenal for the foreseeable future. He knows that if he went to Man City he would be a bench warmer and only make the field as a sub in the dying minutes, plus why uproot your family when his wife and parents have said they are happy in London. Let’s hope it’s not money that turns his head!!!

@ john alex, you are right that Arsenal are bigger than one player – which is exactly why they should not allow anyone under contract to dictate a stuation.

RvP is an Arsenal player, full stop.

i tink arsene wenger should allow rvp to go cos this comin season notin for him, he shld give oda chance to provr themself, hery, hleb, feb, adebay, nari, etc they all leave and arsenal still remain so they shld allow him to go.

the city excuce that we can only pay 15m cause of rvp wage demand,eh,the wage demand should not have any bearing on the transfer as transfer money goes to arsenal wage demand to rvp so there should be no question about transfer fee, anyway his dad said he would not go to city so this is a non starter any way!!

I’m really sick off hearing this story, I couldn’t care less whether he stay or go, personally I think he will go and i would much prefer it if Wenger got rid of de deadwood & got Walcott & Song to sign long term contracts – one player should not hold de club to ransom & if he really wanted to stay he would of signed de new contract on offer by now even b4 he went to de Euro!

Why is it half the people on this site write the height of shit…why would wenger (or any other manager) buy 7/8 new players, who the hell could afford or play all the people suggested. How about a dose of realism instead of fantasy.
