Man Utd Transfer News: £30m Rodriguez Bid Rejected

Manchester United have had a £30m bid for winger James Rodriguez turned down by Porto, according to reports, with the Portuguese champions holding out for £40m

Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Manchester United have seen a huge offer rejected for a Porto star.

James-Rodriguez

Manchester United have had a £30m bid for James Rodriguez turned down by Porto, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims United have been tracking the winger for some time with Sir Alex Ferguson sending scouts to watch him on several occasions last season.

Having been impressed with what he’s seen, Fergie has now made the 20-year-old a top target this summer and has now made his interest official with a £30m offer to Porto.

That bid is said to have been rejected by the Primeira League champions, who are believed to be holding out for the full £40m that would trigger a buy-out clause in the players contract.

Man Utd have been linked with Rodriguez after doubts were raised over the future of Nani, but the Mail understands that Fergie is keen to sign the Colombian regardless of whether Nani stays at Old Trafford or not.

There has also been the suggestion that United will offer Anderson as part of any bid, but Porto are likely to prefer a cash-only deal.

FT Verdict

Rodriguez is a fine talent but is certainly not worth £40m yet. At just 20 years of age and with only 5 international caps to his name, he has a long way to go before he can be regarded as one of the worlds best.

Therefore, i feel it’s unlikely Rodriguez will end up at Old Trafford this summer unless Porto lower their expectations.
