Juan Manuel Vargas

Liverpool are interested in signing Fiorentina winger Juan Manuel Vargas, according to the players agent.

The Independent report that Vargas could leave the Viola this summer after a disappointing season in Serie A, and Liverpool have been touted as a possible destination.

The Peru international still has a year to run on his current contract having joined Fiorentina from Catania in 2008 for 12 million euros, but his four year stay could be set to end according to the players agent Jorge Cyterszpiler.

Cyterszpiler claims that Liverpool is an option for his client, while La Liga side Malaga are also said keen on landing the 28-year-old.

“There is the possibility that he (Vargas) will leave Fiorentina,”

“But at this time it’s just a rumour and there is nothing official.

“He didn’t have the best best of seasons and he needs to make up for it next season.

“Liverpool is an option, but there is also Malaga that has the fascination of playing in next season’s Champions League.

“Does he have a preference with regards to playing the Premier League or the Primera Liga? Vargas likes both leagues as well as the Serie A.”

Cyterszpiler is quoted as saying in the Independent

The versatile South American is predominantly a left winger but is also comfortable playing at left back, and made 24 league appearances for Fiorentina last season.
