Arsenal are ready to move for Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue after going cold on a move for Yann M’Vila, according to talkSPORT.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila throughout the past few months and were thought to be close to sealing a deal before the player flew off to Euro 2012.

However, it’s understood that Arsene Wenger has backed out of the proposed transfer after the player was involved in yet another disciplinary issue at the tournament.

talkSPORT claims that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is still keen to add a defensive-minded midfielder to his squad this summer and France’s under-21 captain Capoue has now emerged as a top target.

The 21-year-old has been in excellent form for Toulouse over the past two seasons and his manager Alain Casanova has admitted the club may be forced into selling their prized asset should a suitable offer come in.

“I hope to keep him, but if we get an offer we can’t refuse we will have to negotiate,”

“He’s a very good footballer with the potential to succeed in a great team in the best league in the world.”

FT Verdict

I’d still love to see M’Vila join Arsenal as I think Arsene could turn him into a top player, and he’s just the sort of combative midfielder we need.

But if we really have pulled the plug on the Rennes midfielder, Capoue would be a decent alternative. He’s similar in style and would be a good addition, but is he THAT much better than the likes of Coquelin and Frimpong? I’m not convinced.
