Arsenal’s want-away captain Robin van Persie has his heart set on a move to Juventus, according to the Mirror.

The report claims that while Manchester United have now edged ahead of rivals Manchester City in the race to sign the Gunners skipper, the Dutch striker has decided he wants to join Italian champions Juventus this summer.

The Serie A giants are now firmly considered as favourites to sign the 28-year-old, ahead of both United and City, and the Italians are confident they can secure a deal to land the player in the coming weeks.

Juventus went the entire season unbeaten to secure the Serie A title last season and are determined to sign a marquee player this summer ahead of their return to the champions league next season.

The Mirror claim they made their move for RVP as early as April and have already had one bid for the 30-goal striker rejected by Arsenal but are prepared to raise their offer and tempt the player with a £180,000-a-week contract.

Van Persie declared his intention not to sign a contract extension at the Emirates on Wednesday and wants to leave the club to win trophies, but despite City’s best efforts to persuade him to remain in the Premier League, a ‘source’ told the Mirror the Dutchman would be open to a switch to Italy.

“The Premier League is not the be all and end all, like it might for an English player.

“Van Persie is Dutch, has a different mindset and other big players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic have had good careers in Italy.”

A ‘source’ told the Mirror.

Man Utd are also keen on him and have now edged ahead of their rivals after it became apparent that City officials have demanded Roberto Mancini sells the like of Emmanuel Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz and Eden Dzeko before a move for Van Persie is made.

FT Verdict

While i don’t believe the Mirror’s supposed ‘source’, i can believe that Van Persie is open to a move to Juventus.

Has he got his heart set on the move to Italy? I doubt it. I would argue he is hoping that Real Madrid or Barcelona come in for him, as I’m not convinced he really wants to move to another Premier League club. So perhaps Juve are his preferred option of the three, but i don’t think RVP has his heart set on a move to Italy.

Its a hard one to judge. everyone is different and thinks differently about each league. some think spain has the best league but apart from barcelona an madrid it lacks other strong teams. england has 3 or 4 strong teams as does italy. So for me it will come down to which attracts him the most. alot of dutch players have chosen italy down the years an most of dutch football greats like van basten davids gullit etc have made a great career there so maybe van persie sees that as a good option. who knows only time will tell

woah less of the racism pal, it makes you look very ignorant.

Also I dont think you can argue with him when he says Man City are not a great club. A good team yes, a rich team yes, but one of the great clubs no, not even in the top 20. A club similar in stature to Everton, Newcastle, Spurs and Aston Villa.

That’s right! Aren’t we always reminded that no player is above the club? Let’s see what happens. Although a nice amount from non EPL team should definitely be considered.

i hate it that he had to make the statement he did.
anyway he should go fast…i also think i would be wise to offload Walcott who has also refused to extend his contract. we need to stay clear of who is going and who is being left behind early before august.

  12. Essien

    July 6, 2012 at 2:54 pm

Its walcott that i really want to go! That guy has been here for six years, we havent won anytin for six years! I believe players like walcott, diaby, ramsey, nasri, WALCOT Again and EVEN Rvp are the guys wenger bought out of arrogance and ignorance wen he suddenly thot he could do the invincibles wit just anybody! Walcot is not an arsenal player! WALCOT OUT bring in Jirachek from check republic or YARMOLENNKOOOO! Rvp, GO AND DIE! i agree wit u jesse. By a worthy replacement, strip him off his arm band, let him not appear for us the whole season, then let him go next august wen he wil be 30yrs! Like we say in pidgin english in Nigeria, ” him body go tell am!” Long live Arsenal!

RVP;How could you? Now you go you disrespectful, back stabbing ingrate. May you get back on to the physio rooms and benches where you have been for so long until we nursed you out and made something of a great player out of you. You have no shame, no respect for Wenger and us the fans who adored you all those times.

Why is this player a bad boy now???
He won nothing big in Arenal bc the club policy is to make money!!
When was last time Arsenal did buy a big star? dont get me wrong i do respect Arsenal more then ManC-ManU-Che
but the club are a selling not a buyer!!
I think PSG will buy him.

I am very suprised that RVP has been offered £180k i don’t think that would make any difference if he had made his mind up, it would be good if he stays but i think it’s a little too late.
