Van Persie & Dzeko In Swap Deal?

Ex-Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour believes his old club should try and get Eden Dzeko in return for Robin van Persie if the Dutchman goes to Man City. You agree?

With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, could Arsenal look to swap RVP for Dzeko?

Robin van Persie 2

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour believes his old club should try and get Eden Dzeko in return for Robin van Persie if the Dutchman goes to Man City.

Parlour was talking to talkSPORT when he suggested the possible swap deal as a way for Arsenal to find a ready-made replacement for their want-away captain.

Roberto Mancini has previously expressed his desire to land the 28-year-old striker this summer but the Gunners are believed to be keen to sell abroad rather than to a Premier League rival.

However, Parlour feels his former side would be better off trying to negotiate a swap deal involving Bosinian striker Dzeko, who is rumoured to be expendable at the Etihad Stadium this summer as Mancini tries to make room for RVP, but thinks that the players wage demands may hinder a potential deal.

“I don’t know what Arsenal will look at, but if [Van Persie] does want to go to Manchester City then maybe they could look at a swap deal with someone like Dzeko and bring him in,”

“His wages might be a problem. I don’t know what kind of wages Dzeko is on at Manchester City and Arsenal have always had that pay structure that they want to keep to and maybe they have to change that.

“Times are moving on and if you want the best players they go for the best money.”

Parlour told talkSPORT.

Football Talk Verdict

It’s an interesting proposal. Dzeko looks like he may be heading out of City this summer so perhaps it could be worth a punt but as Parlour suggests, his wages are likely to be a problem.

But even so, would we want Dzeko? He was hardly a stand-out performer for City last season but then again, he wasn’t given a long run of games to find his best form. He certainly has talent, but he’s nowhere near the caliber of Van Persie.

Personally, i’d like to see someone with a bit more quality come in if RVP does go, and i’d only consider Dzeko if we get him and say £10m if the Dutchman is sold to City.
