Arsenal Board To Sanction £15m Walcott Sale?

By on July 16, 2012

With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Liverpool are linked with a move for Theo Walcott.

Arsenal could be set to cash in on Theo Walcott with Liverpool ready to offer £15m for the England winger, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims that the Reds are ready to rival Chelsea for the signature of Walcott, who has just 12 months to run on his current contract and is no nearer reaching an agreement to extend his stay with the Gunners.

The 23-year-old is believed to be holding out for £100,000-a-week and the club are showing no signs of giving in and offering him those terms. This has lead to a stand-off and the Mirror suggest the Arsenal board are now ready to cash in and sell the pacey forward, despite manager Arsene Wenger adamant he wants to keep hold of him.

Walcott enjoyed a decent season for the Gunners last term, scoring 8 goals and providing 11 assists in his 35 league appearances including a vital brace in Arsenal’s 5-2 win over north London rivals Tottenham at the Emirates.

He has attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea and PSG already this summer but new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to take advantage of his uncertain future and offer £15m for the former Southampton youngster, and could sell Andy Carroll to raise the required funds.

Rodgers is willing to let the target man leave this summer and Newcastle have been linked with a loan move for their former striker, although Liverpool are thought to favour a permanent sale.

I like theo but if u can let your best player lea e then you can also let a player leave that may not even hold down a first team position. if liverpool want him then lets do a deal. carroll and aquilani will be a.great swap. likewise if chelsea want walcott give us benayoun sturridge or lukaku plus cash.

Sit on the bench at chelsea? That’s the reason England are doomed at world cups. English players dont play at teams like Chelsea.

Theo should be allowed to leave Arsenal. He should be a better player than what he appear to be right now. Ox can offer better service compare to theo. the board should quickly cash in on Walcott

Theo should stay a few more yrs at the AFC and AFC should pay the desired fee and tie him down to a long contract.

At times Theo is brilliant, and is always a threat to the opposition every time he comes on to the pitch(ask Braca). You cant let a catalyst like Theo go so early in his career, while you are sure he will fetch twice the sum in couple of years and by that time OX will be ready to take his place.

Also, with his speed he may be the perfect partner to Podolski and Giroud.

everything i hear from outside supporters of arsenal states they know so much about the club. the worst of it is, the conracts of main players are reaching their last years and becoming vulnerable to these types of discussions. however, even a manager cannot change the minds of others. it’s his job to influence them, which seems to be the failure due to the lack of success at the club. the policy has been the same, and that is buy players young, nurture them into the squad learning their individual trade and by the time they reach their prime, we’ll have a chance for trophies. but, that’s not happening at all. no trophies means a lack of commitment. if you’ve been there for years already living under this philosophy and because of this, your contract has run through, you can look at other teams, because they’re looking at you because you’re established and in your prime. Just when arsenal need that last commitment from these players to achieve they pull out. arsenal certainly won’t let them go by choice, for what the club has worked for, but ultimately it’s about the players. money and trophies…
the team must stay united or it will continue to get worse!!

Like RVP, if Walcott cannot agree terms for a contract extension, he should be transferred.
The more I read of class players being available on the market, the more I am convinced that Arsenal would do much better by selling our two unhappy stars and replacing them.

Go to Liverpool play every week Or Chelsea and sit on the bench??? Right Phillips learned the hard way because of greed never played much missed his world cup. But hey he earned a few quid a week. Players need to play week in week out.
