RVP Left Out As Arsenal Confirm 24-Man Squad For Asia Tour

Robin van Persie 2

Arsenal have announced the 24-man squad for the Club’s 2012 Tour of Asia and as expected, captain Robin van Persie will not be travelling.

As revealed on Arsenal.com on Saturday morning, manager Arsene Wenger named his squad with the most notable absentee being Van Persie due to the speculation over the strikers future.

It was widely reported on Friday that RVP wouldn’t be heading out to Asia with the squad after the club rejected three bids from Man City, Man Utd and Juventus. Wenger has given the predictable line of he’s staying home to ‘work on his fitness’, but it’s far more likely the captain of the club has been left behind to sort his future out.

There are some other big names who will be keeping Robin company in London. Lukas Podolski, Per Mertesacker, Bacary Sagna, Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud will not travel as they are not fit enough to play competitive games yet, while Tomas Rosicky is ruled out through injury.

The likes of Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alex Song, Mikel Arteta, Thomas Vermaelen and Gervinho all travel though so there is a good mix of youth and experience.

Arsene told Arsenal.com:

“Some of them [will not go on tour] because they are too far behind to be competitive,” explained Wenger. “But most of them will go.

“The German players [Podolski and Mertesacker] are just back in training on Saturday so they will be late. Some players have to work on their fitness so are a bit behind, like Van Persie, like Koscielny, like Giroud, who came in later. They are not ready to play games.”

Here is the confirmed Arsenal squad:

Vito Mannone
Ignasi Miquel
Chuks Aneke
Thomas Eisfeld
Marouane Chamakh
Ryo Miyaichi
Craig Eastmond
Nico Yennaris
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Francis Coquelin
Kieran Gibbs
Alex Song
Lukasz Fabianski
Carl Jenkinson
Theo Walcott
Wojciech Szczesny
Johan Djourou
Benik Afobe
Thomas Vermaelen
Abou Diaby

I am not too worried about RVP, one good season out of nine is not the most convincing of statistics. Pretty much like Flamini and Nasri, they have one good season and convince their sefs of their on greatness. On e list above, just one question, where is Henri Lansbury ?

Where is Lansbury? How can he be overlooked again? I had such high hopes for him but unless he is injured I think this may be the end for him at arsenal

All the year RVP was with Arsenal they keep faith in him with all the injuries & lack of meaningful contribution to the team. Just one good season and he feels he is bigger then Arsenal. To heal with him.

There are 16 players in there who are not good enough to wear the arsenal shirt. It’s a disgrace to see how far we have fallen. The likes of Newcastle, Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs will all finish above us next season.

I agreed with Jon fan, ask mr. Wenger what is Diaby and squilaci still doing in the team? AW is a racist who allow Denilson go on loan again and leave the likes of chamack, squlaci, ramsey, Diaby and bendtner in the squad.. Did AW know how many arsenal fans that had lost their lives due to heart problems given all their heart to AFC? They all died as a result of bad players, bad management of the team.. Our board and manager focus only on fat bank account.. AW will one day collapse on the field due to the terrible mistakes of bad players in the team.. Trust me Arsenal will finish 8th on the table next season.

wenger is messing our time with the players who can’t be good for arsenal.
they must be sold as soon as they get back to london.6 from this toour list.

RVP is becoming a distraction to Arsenal, its time we let him go. But if those super rich clubs can not meet Arsenal valuation he should see out his contract, let him be playing reserve games with the B team and calling cup matches, let see if he can be good enough for the mega pay he is looking for after a season on the bench.
