Internacional have confirmed that a deal taking midfielder Oscar to Chelsea is almost complete.

According to the Evening Standard, the Blues have agreed a deal with Internacional, believed to be worth £25m, and Oscar has already passed a medical in London last week. The report suggests the transfer could be sealed by the end of the week, with a work permit the only significant stumbling block remaining.

While the 20-year-old will be short of meeting the required percentage of games played for Brazil, he is likely to be granted an ‘exceptional talent’ visa due to the huge transfer fee being paid.

Internacional president Giovanni Luigi has confirmed the deal is at an advanced stage and he’s confident the player will be granted a work permit, while the Evening Standard claim he wants the deal tied up in the coming days.

“The situation is very advanced but not finalised yet. Oscar has to get his work permit. He needs to have a certain amount of caps to play in England but I don’t believe that will be a problem.

“I won’t confirm the value but I can guarantee it wasn’t in pounds. No cross-border negotiation is made in pounds — it’s either Euros or dollars.”

Luigi is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard.

Oscar has also said recently that a move to Chelsea would be a ‘dream’:

“If I go to Chelsea, it will be a dream. It’s a big club in Europe. I’m sure I will have a great Olympics and I will stay in Chelsea.”

Should the Blues wrap up the £25m signing of the Brazilian, it will take owner Roman Abramovich’s spending past the £100m mark this summer as he looks to re-build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League while also defending their champions league trophy.
