Chelsea have received a boost in their pursuit of defender Cesar Azpilicueta after his club Marseiller admitted they may sell the Spaniard this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo is on the look out for a new right back after Jose Bosingwa left the club and Paulo Ferreira is expected to follow him out the door this summer. This leaves Di Matteo short of options as he looks to find competition for Branislav Ivanovic and the Italian has identified Azpilicueta as a potential signing.

Marseille director Jose Anigo has now admitted that the £7m-rated Spanish international could be sold to raise funds for new signings.

‘Everybody has to sell before buying,’

‘In effect, it could either be (Stephane) M’Bia and Azpi. But for now, nothing has changed.’

Anigo is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail

The 22-year-old is currently in England with the Spain squad for the Olympic Games and was involved during last nights shock 1-0 defeat to Japan.

Most Chelsea fans will want Azpi. Our concern is the right wing and striker positions. We are not sure Moses is the best quality and don’t want to be caught relying on Torres after last season. I say bid for Maura and Cavani.

Chelsea has always beleived in paying so much for players that will only turn out to be flops- just b/cos they have refused to recognise their own kind of players (that suits their game pattern). Whoever scouted Moses 4 Chelsea is on point cos he is a perfect Chelsea player and will do better in Chelsea than hazard, sturridge or even marin. Moses is strong, intelligent, skilfull and technical, above all blending into Chelsea won’t be difficult for him cos he’s a home grown player with premiership experience. Another player Chelsea should kill to have is Fellaini or A. Witsel. Chelsea needs some steel in every compartment of their game (Defence, midfield and attack) or else they are going ‘no-where’ with all these ‘feather weighted’ players they are signing. Cheers.

Cesar Azpi is good and young BUT if not for cost, age and high number of NON-EU players in Chelsea, i would have preffered Pereira who is more versatile, defensive and skilfull. For a striker in Chelsea, Hulk would be excellent b/cos of his strength and shot power which Chelsea will really need to win a lot of games. To suceed in the PL, you need pace, intelligence strength and skill- that was what Mancity had that gave them the title.
