Arsenal Transfer News: Barca Line Up £12m Bid For Gunners Ace

By on August 1, 2012

With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Barcelona are linked with a move for Alex Song.

Alex Song

Barcelona are lining up a £12m move for Arsenal midfielder Alex Song, according to the Daily Mail.

Song has become an integral part of Arsenal’s midfield having made the move from Bastia in 2006, and has gone on to make 189 appearances for the club.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a superb season with the Gunners last campaign, racking up 14 assists in his 46 appearances in all competitions and was one of the clubs most consistent performers.

The Cameroon international remains happy at the Emirates but with just two years to run on his current contract, he is in a strong negotiating position and talk of interest from Barcelona will only strengthen that position further.

The La Liga giants were often forced to play midfielders Javier Mascherano and Sergio Busquets at the heart of his defence last season, so Song’s versatility in being able to play in midfield and central defence appeals to the Catalans.

New boss Tito Vilanova is looking to find a replacement for Sedou Keita this summer, and the Daily Mail claim that Vilanova will now sanction a £12m move for Song after discussing the Arsenal ace with his coaching staff.

There was talk of Barcelona eyeing Song last season, but let’s be honest, Barcelona are linked with most Arsenal players these days. Any potential move will certainly not happen this summer but if Arsenal don’t tie him down to a new contract soon, Song-to-Barcelona could be the transfer saga Gooners can look forward to next summer!

whats wrong with barca always wanting to get arsenal players. are they nuts, and whats with tito the new manager trying to get every arsenal players when there are wide range of options around the WORLD from different teams but NOOOO he has to choose Arsenal’s players and not only one of them but like more…

    Pure and utter silliness.
    1) Song has little interest in joining Barca. With his playing style, he’ll find it very hard to adapt at first and may end up on the receiving end of a lot of flak.
    2) Arsenal have no interest in selling one of their top players for 12 million pounds when his value is well above 20 million…
3)… and they would never sell Song on a cut-price deal to BARCA.
This rumour emerged only because Barca can’t find a decent DM on the cheap, and “we all know Arsenal are a selling club.” With this logic in place, we can easily anticipate ALL our players being tapped up. Say, I heard Auxerre want to reclaim Sagna in their bid to return to Ligue 1. Their offer is supposed to be about 7 thousand pounds, but of course, Wenger will have to claw desperately at his star player because all Arsenal players are “wantaway,” never sign contract extensions and leave on cut-price deals to any team that wants them.
Oh, another rumour from an ITK located somewhere below my knee! The Podolski deal, though already concluded, has apparently been hijacked by the revived Rote Armee Fraktion and crashed over Libya. According to reports, agents of AC Milan were in the area and moved the deal to safety at San Siro. Podolski is rumoured to have chosen the number “9.5” as a tribute to RVP, with whom he hopes to play when RAF hijack RVP’s move to Juventus in the next 24 hours.
Oh no, another rumour! This time groaned by an ITK located in the belly. It is rumoured that Diaby is being tapped up by the Bolshoi ballet because of his skills on the ball and dexterity on the treatment table. The deal is rumoured to be worth about 500K pounds, subject to increase within the next few years to up to 15 million (depending on turnout). Diaby is secretly very pleased and expects his flowers and a fancy outfit to arrive in a matter days.

The likes of man city, man u and Barcelona see arsenal as a potential threat if they continue to build the team. Arsenal mind you, beat Chelsea, Liverpool, tottenham and man city last season and also almost pulled a miracle against ac Milan but for the show boating of Rvp. The plan of all the clubs mentioned is to weaken arsenal by destroying the existing chemistry which the likes of Barcelona have profited from that’s why they bid for our players even if it means destroying them.
