Marseille have rejected a £6m bid from Chelsea for defender Cesar Azpilicueta, according to the Metro.

Blues manager Roberto Di Matteo is desperate to add a right back to his squad ahead of the new season after seeing Jose Bosingwa leave the club, while there are still doubts over Paulo Ferreira’s future at Stamford Bridge.

The Italian boss has so far failed with moves for Inter Milan’s Maicon, Ajax’s Gregory van der Wiel, Lille’s Mathieu Debuchy and Borussia Dortmund star Lukasz Piszczek this summer, which has seen him turn his attention to Azpilicueta.

The Metro claim that Chelsea have entered talks with Marseille for the Spanish right back but have had a £6m offer rejected, with the Ligue 1 side holding out for £10m.

The European champions are believed to be unwilling to match that offer, but a compromise could be reached with all three parties keen for a deal to be struck.

Chelsea have watched the 23-year-old in action during Spain’s failed Olympic Games campaign, and while the player has admitted he’s flattered by Chelsea’s interest, he revealed there are other clubs in the running.

‘It is flattering when you have clubs such as Chelsea interested in you, but there are other clubs interested as well,’

Azpilicueta is quoted as saying by the Metro.

Well he hasn’t actually played in the Olympics, which now appears no bad thing as Spain have played 2 – lost 2, to illustrious opposition in Japan and Honduros. He’s likely good back up for Ivanovic who I think will remain our first choice at RB.

I don’t think Chelsea have made any proper attempts for Maicon, Van der Wiel, Debuchy or Piszczek. But I think they should have a go for Debuchy if Azpilicueta stalls. And we do need a proper striker Roman. Lewandowski (23) Bundesliga footballer of the year with 22 goals – thats the right man!

Chelsea have made so far a wonderful job in their endeavour to bring young and talented players. However, they still need one striker and one defender in order to dominate the football games for the years 2012/2013. Otherwise it will be difficult to depend on Torres and attain our goals.
