Arsenal and Manchester United are stepping up their interest in Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama with scouts due to watch him on Wednesday night, according to the Daily Mail.

Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson have both been keeping tabs on the £7m-rated midfielder in recent weeks after sending scouts to watch the player in action during Celtic’s pre-season friendlies with Norwich and Inter Milan.

The duo have received positive reports on the Kenyan so far and scouts will once again be in attendence as Neil Lennon’s men take on Helsinki in their Champions League qualifier tonight.

Wanyama has been deployed in his preferred central midfield role during pre-season after being left frustrated at being played in central defence on several occasions last season.

The 21-year-old moved to Park Head 12 months ago from Belgian side Beerschot AC and enjoyed a superb debut season in the SPL. That form has alerted both the Gunners and United but the Premier League big-guns may also face competition from QPR, who are also believed to be interested in the powerful midfield enforcer.
