Liverpool look set to sign Real Madrid’s £9m rated left back Royston Drenthe after the player claimed he will be playing for the Reds next season.

Roy Hodgson has made the left back position his priority after the £4.5m sale of Emiliano Insua to Fiorentina, along with the departures of Andrea Dossena and Fabio Aurelio, left him with no recognised left-back to choose from.

Now it seems Drenthe, who can also play as a left sided midfielder, will be the man to fill the void after claiming on his Facebook page that he will soon be joining Liverpool.

“I will soon be joining Liverpool FC. I hope I will have a good season, he said.

The 23-year-old former Dutch international has seen his playing time limited at Real Madrid following his move from Feyenoord three years ago, appearing in just 46 games and has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeau for some time.

***Since this article was published it became apparent that the Facebook was page in-fact NOT Drenthe’s personal page but a fansite page***

where is professional journalism gone??? This tripe was put out a few days ago on a fansite facebook page and the great Star newspaper actually thought they had a scoop. Now half arsed sites like this one actually think they have a story to run with. Dont be lazy and actually research stories before you publish them.

This is not a ‘professional’ website, it’s run by football fans so please take this into consideration before making critical comments.

But thanks for pointing out the error, i will make a note on the article.

If you want to be taken seriously as a writer of substance, then do not use the term, “Ace”, so loosely. If Royston Drenthe is indeed a Real Madrid Ace, as you put it, he wouldn’t be languishing in the reserves, would he?
