Arsenal and Liverpool could be set to miss out on Nuri Sahin after AC Milan approached Real Madrid about signing the midfielder, according to the Daily Mail.

Sahin has found his chances limited at Madrid following his move from Borussia Dortmund last summer, making only two starts all of last season. The Turkey international is expected to leave the Bernabeu this summer after boss Jose Mourinho suggested the 23-year-old go on loan for a year in order to gain some first team experience.

Arsenal were thought to be close to landing the midfielder but it seems the two clubs have struggled to agree terms over the loan move. Liverpool have also made a firm enquiry to Real about the players availability, with new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers hoping to use his friendship with Mourinho to his advantage.

However, the Premier League duo may miss out on the talented midfielder after Italian giants AC Milan entered the race, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

Milan are looking to improve their squad after selling both Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to PSG last month, while they are in need of midfield reinforcements after releasing Mark van Bommell and Clarence Seedorf, and will do all they can to lure Sahin to the San Siro this summer.
