Alex Song

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has denied Barcelona are interested in signing Alex Song just days after the player suggested otherwise, according to Sky Sports News.

Recent reports have claimed the Spanish giants had made a £15m move for the midfielder as new boss Tito Vilanova looks to replace the departed Seydou Keita.

However, Wenger has moved to play down these reports insisting their has been no contact from the Catalans, while he also took a swipe at the Spanish press.

“There’s nothing going on with Song. There’s nothing in that,”

“Song has three years’ contract, he’s not in the same situation as Robin Van Persie.

“In Spain the newspapers are not really serious. We’ve had the experience of that. We’ve never had any contact with anybody from Barcelona.”

Wenger is quoted as saying by Sky Sports

The Frenchman’s claims come just days after Song himself had suggested that there was in fact interest from Barcelona, but the Cameroonian ace insists he’s happy at the Emirates.

Quoted by the Mirror, when asked about reports linking him with a move to the Nou Camp, Song said:

“I am not going to lie if I said there is no interest, but I am at Arsenal and I am happy at Arsenal.

“Barcelona are the best team in the world, and speculation will always continue until the window closes.”
