Manchester United are set to announce the signing of Chilean striker Angelo Heriquez after the player passed a medical on Tuesday, according to the Independent

Sir Alex Ferguson is understood to have beaten off severe competition for the talented 18-year-old after agreeing a fee with his club side Universidad de Chile.

It’s understood Heriquez flew into the UK early on Tuesday to undergo his medical, which he passed without issue, and the transfer is now set to be officially announced by the two clubs.

The Independent claim the starlet will be immediately loaned back to his former side to continue his development before he’s considered ready to push for a starting place at Old Trafford.

Heriquez is considered as one of his countries hottest prospects after scoring 17 goals in just 27 games for Universidad de Chile, and has represented Chile at every youth level but is yet to break into the senior set up.

He is injury prone and may not make a mark in UNITED because the striking department is already overcrowded with ROONEY, WELLBECK, CHACHARITO, BERBATOV, STINJI KAGAWA and others.
