With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Arsene Wenger responds to RVP’s sale.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists he had no choice but to sell captain Robin van Persie, but has revealed he won’t be making any further signings to replace the out-going Dutchman, according to Sky Sports News.

The Gunners confirmed on Wednesday night that they had agreed to sell van Persie to Manchester United for a reported fee of £24m. The striker is now back in the UK after being an un-used substitute during Hollands 4-2 loss to Belgium and is set to travel north to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms on Thursday.

Boss Arsene Wenger gave his thoughts on the sale while working for French TV station TF1 and claimed he had little option but to sell his want-away skipper after he refused to sign a contract extension with the club.

“He is at Manchester United, unfortunately for us. The transfer was finalised in the afternoon,”

“It’s never great to lose players of that quality but he only had a year contract so we do not have a choice.”

Wenger is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News

The Frenchman went on to say he won’t be making any further signings in the striker department, despite calls from many sections of the Arsenal support to go out and buy a ready-made replacement.

Wenger claims he signed Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski earlier in the summer to compensate for the sale of van Persie. When asked about buying a striker to replace RVP, Wenger said:

“We have already recruited since we Giroud and Podolski who originally were intended to offset the departure of van Persie,”

Wenger is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News

So it looks like Arsenal will be heading in to the new Premier League season with their current crop of strikers. But will Podolski, Giroud and Chamakh be enough to push for a trophy?

How can you say that Wenger is a poor manager? Think of that Arsenal always finish in top 4 and advance for CL every year. Finally when Wenger have bought 3 world Class players and win against Cologne with 4 goals to nothing, you say that he is à bad manager? I don’t understand some people saying year after year that Wenger must go? He is doing great in Arsenal and you Will see that we take some silverware this season. Mark my words.
      In Wenger we trust!

Arsenal wont get a better manager now then arsene, but come on, we taught arsene learnt a lesson las year about havin quality. polodski der to improve 4 arshavin, santi der 4 fabregas, giroud der to giv us another attack system wit rvp. but now he gone. we need a better squad, dats why players are leaving, they dont believe, der gettin sick of it, we have a team but need a squad. even talks of song goin to barca now. do u honestly think we win something wit wat we got. at best we would win carling cup. we need another defender that can keep other team mates fighting for der position and have cover at same time. we need a striker that can guarantee at least 20 goals. Giroud aint dat. we need players like mexes, lewandowski or LIorente.

So we beat cologne by four goals to nothing, big deal???? I hope you know that cologne were relegated from the bundesliga last season and so far this season are struggling in the second division…..and qualifying for the champs league every year doesn’t mean anything if you don’t win it, so wenger hasn’t achieved anything special. Man U did not qualify from the group stage last year but were in the final in 2011 & 2009 after winning it in 2008. That is what you call success my friend and we won’t anything when we sell our star players every summer. Get some perspective please!

Arsenal have zero ambitions where wining is concerned. They are trully the Premiership league’s money ggrabbers. A complete disgrace to their long suffering supports. The time is fast Approaching when the majority of these supporters would ask themselves, why are we supporting a club that so manifestly does not support their ambitions? I have voted with my feet.

I agree, we’re a football academy. Arsene is so stubborn and set in his ways. He needs to wake up or leave. I still can’t believe so many Arsenal supporters still support this mindset and manager.

Year after year the same stuff, over and over. No trophies and sell our best players to the top teams who have ambition to win. Why does no one seem to get this? The reality is this is the world we live in and you can’t go on winning like this. For those that argue that simply look at the last 7 seasons…enough is enough.

You guys are so predictable and easy to manipulate. Not long ago, RVP could do no wrong, he was Mr Arsenal. Just as a decision to sell was make behind closed doors, he was demonised. Now you are telling me that majority of Arsenal fans did not want him. You need to wake up and see what every other football supporter in the land knows. Arsenal are just a money machine for their owners. Tey have no aspiration for the premiership crown. You guys are being played like an old fiddle. Shame!

u cant b serious. just relying on Giroud to b our striker is crazy. Podolski is a winger not a striker. Please dont let us watch another season with a bare minimum quality squad. we need another striker arsene.

Everything that is happening now had been pre-planned by Wenger and the board. When he quckly brought in two strikers, the motive was to sell RVP but Wenger kept denying that fact. Most fans will question why they should support Arsenal which has turned out to be a business enterprise instead of a competitive football club. Arsenal’s ambition is to qualify for the champions league and anything beyond that is not in their agenda. I would recommend that we fans still keep supporting the club but don’t put your emotions in it.When they win rejoice, when they lose forget it and don’t cry. As long as Wenger is in charge, things will be like this, year in, year out. It is sad and painful how a good club is being destroyed by few indviduals.

      August 16, 2012 at 10:21 pm

So arsenal supporters are deluded for criticizing wengers lack of ambition and for selling his 3 best players in consecutive summers and thinking we can still challenge for trophies????? To replace a world class player with lukas podolski who was a huge flop at his only big club bayern munich and olivier giroud who has had only one good season in the top flight??? Who was playing in the lower leagues just 2 seasons ago???? Dude, please stop smoking wateva u are smoking and get a dose of reality, big big dose…..to sell our best player to our greatest rival in manchester united???? And you still believe wenger is competitive and shouldn’t be sacked??? Let me remind you that alex fergusson wouldn’t sell gabriel heinze who was surplus to requirement at united to liverpool just some years back just because they were rivals. Seriously, man I think you are the one who is deluded. No disrespect!

Why does any of this surprise? Wenger never lets on whatis really happenning, nevr has. I would not be shocked if VP pplays all of 10 games then crocks up for the rest of the season.
    Wenger Knows!!!

Seriously, we need an out and out striker to replace RVP. A right footed one will be needed to complement Podolski and Giroud. We also need a defensive midfielder, someone in the frame of vierra. Furthermore, we need an anchor man and then we will win EPL and even the CL at a cost of less than the price of RVP. Comeon Wenger, dream. Just dream a bit more. Dream silver old man. Dream!!!!
