There are mixed reports today on the future of Belgian striker Kevin Mirallas, with both Arsenal and Everton vying for his signature.

According to Sky Sports News, the Olympiakos hitman is set to snub interest from the Gunners in favour of a move to Goodison Park. Arsenal have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old all summer and while the player confirmed he has the option to move to the Emirates, he hinted that a move to Merseyside might be better for his career as he would be guaranteed more first team football.

When quizzed on his future by Sky Sports News after Belgium’s 4-2 win over Holland on Wednesday night, Mirallas said:

“It is possible to go to Everton, it is possible to go to Arsenal, I don’t know now,”

“I will speak with my manager and make a good decision for me and also speak to my family importantly.

“They are two big clubs of the Premier League, but for me it is more important to play every week. It is better for me a little bit at Everton.

“They [Everton] are a good team and it is a good opportunity because Marouane Fellaini plays at Everton who is my friend, but I don’t know.

“Tomorrow I go to Greece, next week I go to the Premier League or go to Superleague Greece.”

However, the Daily Mail are taking a slightly different stance on the matter. While they maintain that Everton are still considered as favourites to land the talented forward, they have quotes from the player suggesting a move to Arsenal is still a distinct possibility.

Asked by the Mail if Arsenal would be his preference, he apparently smiled and said:

‘Players always have preferences, but we will have to see who wants me the most. I know everything that is going on. I know my agent has spoken to Arsenal and is now talking to David Moyes.

‘It is good that one or two Premier League clubs are interested in me, but there are still two weeks to go before the transfer window shuts. It will be a race to get me, so let’s see who wins. The main thing is, I do feel ready for the Premier League, and I am looking forward to playing there.’

The Daily Mail claim David Moyes traveled to Brussels on Wednesday night to try and trash out a deal with Mirallas’ representatives ahead of a potential £6.3m deal.

Arsene Wenger is understood to have already held talks with the player and his agent over a move to the Emirates, but is yet to follow up his interest with an official move.

Perhaps Wenger was waiting until Robin van Persie was sold before moving for his replacement? If Wenger wants that man to be Mirallas, it looks like he will have to act fast as the Mail claim the player is expected to travel to Merseyside in the next 48 hours to undergo his medical.

Reading between the lines of these two sets of quotes, Mirallas sounds like his heart is telling him to join Arsenal while his head says it would be better for him to move to Everton.

No doubt he has more chance of getting a game with the Toffees, so it would make sense to move to Everton if he wants to be playing regularly. But Arsenal are top club playing in the champions league and (hopefully) fighting for honours. It’s a tough one for him, lets see what happens in the coming days.
