With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Liverpool are linked with a double swoop on Tottenham.
Liverpool are interested in signing either Michael Dawson or Steven Caulker from Tottenham if Daniel Agger is sold this summer, according to the Metro.
Danish stopper Agger has recently reaffirmed his commitment to Liverpool but also suggested the club could decide to cash in, amid reported interest from Manchester City and Barcelona.
The Reds are understood to have already rejected a bid of around £20m from City, with Roberto Mancini keen to pair Agger with Vincent Kompany next season.
The Metro claim that talks over a new deal for Agger have stalled and Brendan Rodgers may decide to sell now to give himself substantial funds to strengthen his squad with this summer, and on his list of potential replacements are the Spurs duo.
Tottenham have signed Jan Vertonghen this summer and it’s expected he will play alongside Younes Kaboul at the heart of their defence next season. This would leave Dawson and Caulker out in the cold and both could therefore be open to a move.
Caulker enjoyed a successful spell on loan with Swansea last season and another loan deal is a possibility as Spurs are unlikely to sell him at this stage in the career.
28-year-old Dawson missed most of last season through injury and is the more realistic option for Rodgers as at his age he’s going to want to be playing first team football and Spurs may be persuaded to cash in.
