Arsenal Have A New No.10 – But Worrying News For Podolski?

By on August 17, 2012

arsenal's jack-wilshere

Arsenal have confirmed several changes to the squad numbers for the upcoming campaign, most notable is Jack Wilshere being handed the famous No.10 shirt.

Following the departure of Robin van Persie to Manchester United, there was a vacancy to be filled with many assuming it would be summer signing Lukas Podolski who would inherit the No.10 shirt.

However, the Gunners have confirmed on Arsenal.com that midfielder Wilshere has moved from the No.19 shirt to take up the number previously worn by the likes of Dennis Bergkamp.

Santi Cazorla will  now replace Wilshere and wear the No.19 shirt, Wojciech Szczesny has moved from 13 to take over the No.1 shirt, while Francis Coquelin will now wear the No.22 jersey.

Perhaps the most worrying news is that Lukas Podolski has been handed the dreaded No.9 shirt, taking over from Ju Young-Park who now takes over No.30. The No.9 shirt has been something of a poisoned chalice in recent years with the likes of Davor Suker, Francis Jeffers, Jose Antonio Reyes, Julio Baptista, Eduardo and Park all disappointing while wearing the jersey.

Hopefully Podolski can break the ‘curse’ this season!

Eduardo disappointing at No.9? If you mean terrifying defences and scoring brilliant goals until a thug all but removed the lower part of his leg, after which it was a medical miracle he ever walked again let alone play professional football, then OK. Personally , the only disappointing thing was that Martin Taylor wasn’t banned for life for wrecklessly crippling a fellow player.

Totally agree Eduardo was hitting geat form when he nearly had his foot taken off. Remember the match against Everton shortly before the “no malice” incident?
Everton would have beaten us but for a brilliant hat trick from Eduardo.

Totally agree with the above we’ve had some failures at 9 but Ed was no way one of them he carried us when rvp was yet again injured, kinda glad to see the back of the glass man so much class but no loyalty

i believe that this man is a foolish
man, one day he will sell all the
players and he will promote all the
academy players to be playing in the
premiership, i dont want to support
this foolish club again, u are now
saying you want to sell song to barca,
i dont know why i are still keeping
player like arron ramson. If barca
need song let them sacrifies messi or
    inesita to arsenal

success key go p**s off and support another team then.
We don’t need plastic fans like you anyway. Go support United or something.
I will support Arsenal no matter happens, where they are or what player we sell or don’t.
We’re not on a level with Barca or Utd anymore so cry all you want that’s the reality.
We’re a much stronger team this season, we bought three players to replace Van Persie and will buy more if we need to replace mr ‘misplace simple passes’ Song.
We want you as a fellow fan as much as we want to support RVP at man utd, not at all.

Eduardo and Batista were hardly disappointing. there is no such thing as an unlucky number, there is such a thing of a players attitude to a number and whether that said player is destined for it.
Jack Wilshire’s number shows that Wenger is planning to push jack further up field into Fabregas’s old position which I think jack is destined for.

RVP Could also be RIP, dat is y i say bye-bye. Podolski is welcomed no.9 shirt will not disappoint him. 4 Wishere n no. 10 shirt, it is a square peck in a square hole. De 10 shirt is 4 a lucrative midfielders n not de 4 defenders or attackers.

we will always support club, but it is painful watchin how we are shooting ourselves in d foot. we keep goin d way we are, we will let other clubs bypass us, and lose desire from potential players wanting to come to us. we need strength in depth. city have it everywhere. united hav it everywhere bar centre midfield. chelsea not so much, and u can see how they hav fallen. only place we have depth is in midfield, thats including polodski. Giroud is our only striker

Whatever you are insinuating, i of a grate confidence that Mr. Podol is a lucky man and will be the anointing that break the yoke. He is already shining so no going back. Up up up gunners down down man u nd city, etc.
