[Video Highlights] Arsenal 0-0 Sunderland: Toothless Gunners Frustrated

By on August 18, 2012

Arsenal opened up the new season with a frustrating 0-0 draw at home to Sunderland. Despite enjoying almost 70% of the possession and having over 20 shots at goal, Mignolet was hardly tested as just 3 shots managed to find the target.

New signing Santi Cazorla stood out throughout the game and went close to opening the scoring twice early on but saw his long range effort tipped over before firing wide from inside the area.

That was about as good as it got during the first half and it took until sub Giroud came on midway through the second half for us to create another chance of note.  This time Cazorla set the big man up with a lovely through-ball, but the Frenchman fired wide when he really should have buried it.

Sunderland were content with playing 10 men behind the ball but that’s no excuse, we should be used to that by now and we need to find a way of breaking these teams down. Player ratings will be up later, for now here are ‘highlights’ from the game.

We did pretty decent job. No goal!!! lots of posession and good creation of chances but the finishing needs to improve a bit. Players are gelling well…no reason of panic at this moment. In the day full of surprises nearly 15 goals scored already we came out clean with a draw. But, am sure we will improve over time and be a dominant force. Give the lads some time…We will do better without Van Pu$$y.
