AC Milan are set to offer Philippe Mexes to Arsenal in exchange for outcast Nicklas Bendtner, according to the Evening Standard.

The Serie A giants have been tracking the big Dane for some time but have so far been reluctant to make their interest official. However, the Evening Standard claims Milan will soon offer French centre-back Mexes as part of a swap deal.

The 30-year-old has also fallen of out favour at the San Siro but it’s thought his £80,000-a-week wages may put off the Gunners.

Bendtner has fallen out of favour at the Emirates and spent a successful year on loan with Sunderland last campaign, where he scored 8 goals in 28 games, and a permanent move this summer is a certainty.

The Denmark hitman is quoted by the Standard as saying last week that he will definitely leave Arsenal this summer and he is currently negotiating his exit from the club:

“It is not an option to stay at Arsenal, that is something neither I nor Arsenal desire,”

“I am expecting that the club issue will be resolved before the transfer window is closed. There are serious negotiations going on.”

Bendtner is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard.

Boss Arsene Wenger confirmed that he is keen to add a defender to his squad before the window closes, but would he be interested in Mexes? At 30 he would bring some experience to the backline but i’m not convinced he’s what we need nor what Wenger is looking for.

So while the idea of finally getting rid of Bendtner is appealing, i’d prefer a straight cash deal and let Arsene buy the defender he wants, not get AC Milan’s cast offs.
