Arsenal Transfer News: Toulouse Ace Wants Gunners Move

By on August 22, 2012

With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, a Senegalese defender claims Arsenal are interested in him.

Cheikh-MBengue

Toulouse left-back Cheikh M’Bengue has claimed Arsenal are interested in signing him this summer and admitted he would be keen on a move to north London, according to Sky Sports News.

The Senegalese international has been with the Ligue 1 side since 2007 and has become one of the most highly-rated left back’s in France.

The 24-year-old has admitted he is flattered to have attracted the interest of Arsenal and claims he would jump at the chance of moving to the Premier League.  When asked if he had spoken to either club about a move, M’Bengue says his agent has held talks with the Club’s chairman after learning of Arsene Wengers interest.

When quizzed about Arsenal reported interest, M’Bengue is quoted as saying by Sky Sports:

“Arsenal’s interest? To be honest I didn’t expect it. When such a big club is thinking about you, it is great pleasure, but you are above all surprised.

“It is really flattering. Moreover, the Premier League is the league where I would like to play.”

“My agent is managing that and I believe he had talks with Toulouse’s chairman.”

Despite being an important part of the Toulouse team and having has two years to run on his current contract, M’Bengue says it would be difficult for him to turn down a move to the Gunners and he hopes Toulouse wouldn’t stand in his way:

“I didn’t forecast I would be leaving, I have 2 years remaining on my contract, but it would be difficult to accept to be forced to stay,”

“Indeed, I am a key part of the Toulouse squad. I have no agreement to leave or any clause on my contract.

“But you cannot refuse Arsenal, if everyone can benefit from it. I hope if there is an exciting proposition, the chairman won’t block me.

“You also have to consider player’s interest. Arsenal would be great.”

I fully expect Arsene to bring in a versatile defender who can play across the back line in the coming days, but will that man be M’Bengue?

I doubt very much he is the only player Wenger has made an enquiry about but we could do a lot worse than signing this guy. He’s full of energy and highly-rated over in France – Wengers favourite place to go shopping – and he clearly wants to play for Arsenal.
