Shakhtar Donetsk striker Eduardo has hinted he would like to return to former side Arsenal, claiming he could fill the void left by Robin van Persie.

The Brazilian-born striker has opened the door to a return to the Premier League, having scored 22 goals in 67 games during his three years at the Emirates between 2007-2010.

The Croatian internationals Gunners career was cruelly hampered by a sickening leg break suffered against Birmingham in February 2008. Although he returned to first team action almost exactly a year later, Eduardo was never quite the same player and was eventually sold to Shakhtar in the summer of 2010.

Recent reports had linked the 29-year-old with a return to the Premier League but it’s former side Arsenal who Eduardo feels he could be of use to, claiming he could score some important goals for the Londoners following the sale of striker Robin van Persie.

When speaking about his former side, Eduardo told the BBC,:

“It would be nice if they wanted me to join again, but it’s not the kind of thing I’m thinking about,”

“If I played for Arsenal now I could score some important goals from nothing – in games like Sunderland, when it’s 0-0 and you score the only goal. My studying of the game is like that.

“I can give you a lot of important points. I think Arsenal are missing some players like that. You never know.”

“When you’ve played in the Premier League, you sometimes miss the atmosphere in the stadiums and the playing style. I miss this and hope one day I will come back.”

There is no doubt ‘Dudu’ was a clinical finisher, even after the leg break, but sadly he lost a yard of pace and didn’t seem to recover mentally after ‘that’ incident at St Andrews in 2008.

I was a huge fan of his when he was at the Emirates but unfortunately i don’t think we’ll be seeing him back in the famous Red & White any time soon. Who knows, maybe Arsene could bring him back as an impact sub?!
