The Nuri Sahin transfer-saga is set to finally come to an end with Liverpool on the verge of completing a year-long loan deal after Arsenal ended their interest in the player, according to the BBC.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for the Real Madrid playmaker after Jose Mourinho gave him permission to go out on loan this summer to gain first team experience, having struggled to make a breakthrough at the Bernabeu.

The Turkish midfielder was expected to join Arsenal earlier this week with the 23-year-old preferring a move to north London due to the lure of champions league football.

However, the deal stalled when the two clubs couldn’t agree on what would happen to the player at the end of the loan spell, with Arsene Wenger believed to be insistent over having the option to buy.

With both Madrid and the player keen on a straight loan deal, Arsenal ended their interest allowing Liverpool back in and they quickly agreed a deal with the Spanish giants. Sahin’s agent met with Reds officials over the last 24 hours to put the finishing touches on the move.

Despite the player leaning towards a move to Arsenal, Madrid were keen on him moving to Liverpool as the Anfield club offered to pay a larger proportion of the midfielders £115,000 wages, and they were also not a champions league rival.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed last night that he expected to complete the deal in the next 24 hours. A statement on on Liverpoolfc.com said:

“Hopefully in the next 24 hours we’ll get some confirmation,”

“It’s quite far [along]. He’s a very good footballer.”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is now understood to be considering a number of other targets as he looks to strengthen his midfield following the sale of Alex Song to Barcelona.
