As we enter the final stages of the summer transfer window, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news. Today, Arsene Wenger responds to reports suggesting he wants Cheick Tiote.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has responded to speculation linking him with a move for Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote.

The Mirror reported on Sunday that the Gunners boss has made Tiote his number one transfer target ahead of Rennes enforcer Yann M’Vila as he tries to add a defensive midfielder to his squad in the final week of the transfer window.

Wenger is keen to replace the departed Alex Song, who was sold to Barcelona last week, and the Mirror claim he’s set to table a £15m bid for the Newcastle ace.

Speaking after Sunday’s 0-0 draw away with Stoke City, Wenger said that while he admires the 26-year-old’s talents he dismissed he’s set for a move to the Emirates. Wenger told Arsenal.com:

“Tiote is a good player but he is not on his way to Arsenal.”

How much can we read in to this? As it’s Wenger, not much. He claimed he hadn’t heard of Santi Cazorla only days before signing him, so just because he says Tiote isn’t on his way to Arsenal doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t be by the end of the week!

However, while I’d love to see us go for Tiote but i’m not convinced we’d be able to persuade Newcastle in to selling, or if they would sell, i can’t see Wenger paying what it would take to land him. There are cheaper alternatives available such as M’Vila or Capoue, so i fancy one of those to join this week.

Wenger is always talking about a good player but unable to buy.To be realistic Tiote is the only replacement to song,he has the primeirship experience and physically fit.

But i think Arsenal is not thinking well, if he is to buy Tiote with 15 Million, then why sailing Alex Song to barca the same 15 Million, is he trying to tell us that Tiote is better than Alex Song???

Cheap club, cheap fans with cheap thoughts, cheap ambitions, always wanting low key players on cheap salaries. Why not rename the club to Cheap FC.

tiote is the only option!he knows the premiership and the only one to free arteta to do the game other than diaby. the conbination of tiote, arteta and carzola will make a lot of sense and will give us more strength in the mildfeild and hopefully more goals.

If wenger buy Tiote 15million at d end of d day then he made unforgivable mistake by selling Song d same amount to Barca coz Song is far better than Tiote. Wenger killed arsenal‘s season d day he sold Song out.

Why on earth do you sell Song in the first place. None of them can match our 2nd best player for last season

Personally don’t think Tiote is good enough, Yann M’Villa would be the best replacement for Song, & doesnt lose the ball half as much as the other two!…True, he may not have EPL exp, but hes got the stature to adapt quickly for the DCM position, plus do we seriously expect NUFC to accept bids so late for two of thier best performers, Tiote & Cabaye, considering they’d also have to look for replacements of their own in such short time?…unlike us who have had our talent so easily raided over the last 3 years without proper replacements as of yet…Rennes have already prepared for the loss of M’Villa , so surely Wenger something must have already been done?…

Either Tiote or M’vila, I don’t mind just sign one of them if not both, I wish we had richer owners do we could splash a bit more

Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this blog.

It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s challenging to get that “perfect balance” between usability
and appearance. I must say you’ve done a superb job with this.
In addition, the blog loads extremely quick for me on Opera.

    Outstanding Blog!
