Maybe Spurs Didn’t Want Champions League Football After All?

Harry-Redknapp

Written by Fab4.

The Spuds do make me laugh. It takes them years to finally qualify for the Champions League (qualifying round) and when they get there, they complain about the fixtures!

For those of you who haven’t heard, good old ‘Arry Redknapp has been moaning about Tottenham’s fixture pile-up at the start of the season and saying it’s ridiculous they are expected to play every Saturday/Wednesday.

“If you look at our schedule, we had a game tonight, then we play Benfica on Tuesday, Fiorentina on Saturday, then the international game in midweek, then Man City on Saturday, then a Champions League qualifier on the Tuesday/Wednesday, then Stoke away, then a Champions League qualifier, then Wigan…..I mean it’s crazy.

Every Saturday/ Wednesday and we pile more games in. The last thing we need is to be playing more games, we need to train. To many games have been scheduled.”

“Can someone tell me why you have an international week the week before the start of the season?

They’ve all been away at the World Cup together, now they have to meet up for a meaningless friendly the week before the start of the season.

I wont see those players from Saturday night until Friday before we play Man City.”

Sorry Harry, is the Champions League getting in the way?! Now he does have a point about the crazy England friendly, but the rest is rubbish. How can he be complaining about the friendlies his club have arranged? If you didn’t want the friendlies, then don’t arrange them! And i hate to drop it to you Harry, but if you want your little Spuds team to be a major force in Europe, then you better get used to playing a game every 3-4 days. Arsenal, Chelsea, United and Liverpool have had to do it for years.

Hopefully you’ll get your wish and Spurs will have all week free to train after you exit the Champions League in the early stages, but my advice is you should enjoy it while it lasts. It’s a bit of a kick-in-the-face to the Spurs fans really. When they finished fourth they celebrated like they had won the League, Champions League and World Cup all at once…now their leader is moaning about having to actually play the games. Redknapp should be buzzing about the up-coming Champions League games, I’m sure the fans are, why not him?

What’s he gonna do when he has to juggle Carling Cup and FA Cup games as well? Probably rest his first team and play the reserves eh? Oh hang on a minute, wasn’t Redknapp one of the ‘Arsenal are degrading the domestic cups by playing weakened teams’ brigade? Maybe now he will realise when you play at the top you have to prioritise.

Before all you Spurs fans jump down my throat, save it. I’m an Arsenal fan who contributes Arsenal related content to www.football-talk.co.uk, but i believe Redknapp should have chosen his words more carefully. Qualifying for the Champions League was a massive achievement for Tottenham and the games should be looked forward to with excitement. The England friendly aside, he has nothing to complain about.

***EDIT*** For those of you (Spurs fans) who are saying i have taken the Sky Sports News video out of context. The SSN video has been edited to only show Harry talking about the England friendly. The full interview shows him talking and complaining about all the fixtures Spurs have coming up. So no, he wasn’t only complaining about the England game he was saying ALL the fixtures you have to play is crazy.

Arsenal fans, you know the Emirates Cup doesn’t count as a trophy right?

Shut up Rossy. It’s been so long since you win anything you don’t even have the right to comment on what one looks like.

This article and the Arsenal fans are pathetic. Concentrate on your own (huge) problems.

Harry said basically that this International friendly – which he finds annoying, pointless and demanding – the straw which breaks the camel’s back, so to speak – COMBINED with the rest of Spurs’ pre-season matches (WHICH HE ACCEPTS) has caused the inconvenience mentioned by you.

Therefore, it is slightly out of context and a desperate attempt to nit-pick in order to find some sign of ‘weakness’ in the Spurs camp. Typical Gooner behaviour I’m afraid. It isn’t a sign of weakness or not being able to cope with the demand. The Chairman probably organised Spurs’ pre-season friendlies but the International match could’ve been avoided.

Here’s a Gooner sign of weakness seeing as you want to play this game so much – Fabregas will be on his way to Barca on deadline day. Yeh he’ll ‘respect Arsene’ as a second father and all that, but he’ll be gone. Then you’ll be fooked unless you bring in someone else and Chamakh pulls a wonder-season from the get-go.

    Good luck………………….:P

You gooners are soooo thick…we played in the UEFA cup that has a bigger fixture clash than champions league where there is more games, Redknapp was talking about the international friendly and he doesnt want the friendlies but theres a lot of money involved in it,and in this day and age you accept whatever comes as it is allll a business that wants high dividends…dont act like your trying to teach us something you pathetic south london fools. and to the guy who done comment number 8….weve won more european trophies than you…you won the uefa cup winners cup once which was the easiest of the 3 european trophies to win at the time. we were the 1st english team to win that trophy and then went on to win the UEFA cup trophy 2 times after, a trophy you have never won and got raped by galatasaray. so get your history right…and you call yourself an arsenal supporter…PATHETIC…typical gooner only ever watch your own club and no one elses.thought you were the only team that passes a ball in the world until barcelona taught you a lesson. think fabregas is best midfielder in the world until xavi and iniesta taught him a lesson.thought henry was the best player in the world until ronaldinho showed everyone how it was done…CLOSE THIS BLOG YOU SAPPS

Fab4 being inexprerienced is not a sin- even Wenger once was but its how one handles it! Anyway whats experience got to do with it?? Whinger is experienced & he’s whinging all the time; Fergie is even more experienced & he’s the only manager who can rival yours for MOANING. Football’s a pressure game & its good to let of steam! Just as life is also- so thanks for allowing us put upon spurs supporters to let off by panning your PATHETIC article!

BTW- Arry is only voicing what all other managers are thinking- especially the other Top 4 clubs! So he has done your manager a favour! It’s only fair he returns it- by owning up to the faults of his players/team on the pitch.

Funny when everytime you turn on the telly Arsene the Whinger is always there spouting off his usual nonsense about how the Premier League are ruining Arsenals chances, how bad we are at this or that, yet I cannot ever have seen anything from Rob4 condemning this hypocrite in any shape or form! Well Rob how about writing a piece about Arsenal not contributing one iota to the English game, and how about praising a rival manager for his preference towards English players both youth and experienced for the mutual benefit of both club and country? Oh sorry forgot to mention as to why once again your only signings have been French speaking foreign imports instead of the promotion from this fantastic crop of English youth players so often felted by Mr Hypocrite himself, but ignored yet again!

If Harry was complaining about our fixtures then that does seem strange I’ll admit. I think he probably meant that with all those fixtures throwing in an England game to boot is the straw that breaks the camels back. I do find it strange that an Arsenal fan picks up on our manager complaining though. Wenger is by far the biggest whinger in world football (even including old red nose) All that man does is complain about how they were robbed, how they were tackled, how someone dared to try and beat them. Now he’s complaining about the new 25 man squad rules. Apparently it’s a disaster! Maybe because it means he can’t continue to turn Arsenal into the french national team. The only time I’ve ever heard him admit the side he played was better was against Barcelona when they were comprhensively battered. So if you want to talk about managers complaining we should get together and swap notes lol. But then you might not cshake my hand at the end ;o)

If you READ the quote, his complaint is with international week. We’ve heard other managers make this point in the past….from harry to the special one to SAF…..perhaps Sir Alex and the special one are by the same token not cut out for Europe’s elite….Stop writing and get the school toilets cleaned you plum 🙂
