The Dutchman has endured a difficult time at the Nou Camp since joining the club from PSV, making only a handful of starts during an injury-plagued 18 months in Spain.
The attacker was expecting to feature on a more regular basis this season after finally getting himself back to full fitness. However, the 26-year-old has been told he’s not in new boss Tito Vilanova’s first team plans and is free to leave the club on loan this summer.
The Metro claim Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool are interested in signing him and the players agent, Rob Jansen, has confirmed his client will secure a loan move this week and has concrete interest from England.
‘I expect Afellay to leave Barcelona on loan before the transfer window closes,’
‘Talks are ongoing with several clubs. He has concrete interest from England. But it all depends on Barcelona, though. They decide where their players are going.’
Tottenham and Liverpool are believed to hold the most serious interest in the Holland international, but long-term admirers Arsenal are also monitoring his situation.
Barcelona are expected to ask for a loan fee of anything up to £4m for Afellay, who is keen to go on loan to show Vilanova what he’s capable of in the hope of resurrecting his career at the Nou Camp.
