Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given an update on the transfer activity going on at the Emirates as we enter the final hours of the transfer window.

The Gunners have been linked with a host of players in recent weeks with a defensive midfielder thought to be the Frenchman’s priority following the sale of Alex Song to Barcelona.

Speaking at his weekly press conference ahead of this Sunday’s trip to Anfield, Wenger confirmed the club are in the market and he is working hard to bring in fresh faces, but insists he will only sign ‘top, top, top, players’. Wenger told Arsenal.com.

“We have enough [players], that is for sure, but you always want to improve your squad and if we find a top, top, top player we will do it,” he said.

“We are working very, very hard. We have resources available so if it is not happening now it will happen in December.

“We are active but we do not just want to bring average players in. If we find a special player who can find us a plus we will do it, if not we will not do it.

“But we believe strongly that we have the quality in our squad to do very well. We have already bought Cazorla, Podolski and Giroud of course. So you cannot say we have not bought, but when you listen to people you always have to buy more.

“What is important as well is to believe in the players you have and we will get our long-term injuries back.”

Two players that are widely tipped to leave north London this summer are strikers Nicklas Bendtner and Marouance Chamakh.

Danish forward Bendtner is expected to make a move to Italy with a move to Juventus said to be close, while Chamakh is being linked with the likes of Fiorentina and Besiktas.

However, while the Gunners boss confirmed they could leave before the window closes, he insists no agreement has been reached as yet. On Bendtner, Wenger said:

“There is a chance he is leaving. Where is not decided at the moment.”

Wenger added when asked about Chamakh:

“Again, we have not made an agreement with any club.”

Wenger recuits players of at least the third range.today he does not have a striker truly, his squad does not give a hope of winning such a troph this season.what the team lack?finacial means or Wenger is not willing to make a meaningful recruitment?I’m Arsenal fan but I never sustain Wenger’s recruitment. The team has lost the winning mentality!why?Wenger make a change. What Arshavin,Chamack,Squilacci,DJOURU,Park, etc. do? why not exchanging them in a striker of quality Arsenal need!Wenger deserves a long rest like that of Guardiola, he is only lying fans.In Wenger I don’t trust.

I now believe that the board is not the problem but Wenger himself!!! Why on earth doesn’t he spend the money the club has made for selling our 2 good players? does he really mean that there aren’t any better players than the dead wood draining our club with high wages? We really need a change of guard or else in a few years time we’ll rot in Thursday night football
