French striker Loic Remy

Chelsea are in advanced negotiations with Marseille over a £15m deal to sign striker Loic Remy, according to the Mirror.

The European champions are desperate to add another striker to their ranks before the transfer window closes at 11pm tonight, following the departures of Didier Drogba and Romelu Lukaku this summer.

Roberto Di Matteo has turned his attention to Remy after his attempts to sign Bayer Leverkusen attacker Andre Shurrle broke down, with the two clubs unable to agree a deal.

The Blues are  now understood to be locked in last minute talks with Marseille with a view to a deal that would see them pay in excess of £15m for the French hitman.

Remy has previously been linked with several European clubs and the player confirmed he was in talks with Tottenham but that move has fallen through:

“Yes there were discussions with Tottenham, but they came to nothing and they will not continue.”

Remy is quoted as saying in the Mirror

Chelsea are now confident they can secure the 25-year-old’s signature before tonight’s deadline as Roman Abramovich’s summer spending heads towards the £100m mark.
