Chelsea are in talks with Fenerbache over the £8m sale of midfielder Raul Meireles, according to the Guardian.

The Turkish club released a statement on their official website on Monday morning claiming that they had entered talks with the European champions over the potential signing of Meireles.

Although the British transfer window closed on Friday night, Fenerbache are still able to buy as their own countries window doesn’t close until midnight on Wednesday.

Meireles was signed by former Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas last summer from Liverpool in a £12m deal but has been linked with a move away this summer after failing to establish himself at Stamford Bridge.

New manager Roberto Di Matteo doesn’t see the 29-year-old as a first team regular and is happy for him to move on this summer providing they can agree a deal, with Fenerbache prepared to pay £8m for the Portuguese international.

Whether that’s going to be enough to persuade Chelsea into selling remains to be seen but the two clubs have just over 48 hours to find an agreement.
