Following Abou Diaby’s impressive start to the new season after his return from injury, our resident Arsenal fan ‘Lloyd the Gooner’ looks at his return to form

Abou Diaby

Ok then it’s humble pie all-round for those that rubbished my suggestion that Abou Diaby is the ‘single most talented player at the club’ (Arsenal).

One swallow doth not a summer make I know. But we have a whole flight now. He showed his class pre-season whilst slowly getting himself fit. He followed that up with an intelligent display against Sunderland on the opening day of the Premier League season.

His physical presence then played an important part in our best defensive display against Stoke City since the dinosaurs returned to the top flight (Isn’t that their nickname? If not it should be!).

Then to Anfield. Any doubters left? (Come on the Diaby naysayers don’t lose your courage now.) Abou ran the game. He controlled the tempo, made Gerrard wish he’d been somewhere else (Chelsea?) and blossomed to show his absolute class.

His run for the Giroud miss in the first half was the best set up of the season so far. His flick in the first half to free Cazorla was extravagant but wonderfully effective. What a partnership they could be by the way.

Then to France. He ran the game for them against Finland on Friday, scored the only goal and earned the praise of his manager Deschamps who described him as ‘the complete midfielder’.

Charlie Adam any one? Come on, many Gooners thought he would be a better bet in our midfield than Diaby. I even saw Joey Barton mentioned. We need a British backbone, they said. Well you can keep the pair of them and all the other no hope hoofers that so many Gooners cherish. We have at the club a little gem in Cazorla. And now we have his big mate alongside him ready to dominate.

Allez Abou!!
