Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has thrown his future in to doubt after questioning the clubs decision to sell it’s star players and admits he’s yet to discuss a new contract with the club.

Sagna is currently working his way back to full fitness after breaking his leg towards the end of last season but has been left unimpressed by Arsenal’s decision to once again sell their best players in the summer.

The 29-year-old has claimed in a revealing interview that he expected captain Robin van Persie to leave but can’t understand why Alex Song was also sold by the club this summer, and admits he’s getting used to seeing the squads best players leave every year.

The Frenchman also claims he found it difficult watching former team-mates Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy lift the Premier League trophy just 12 months after quitting Arsenal, and admitted the pair were proved right to leave the Gunners.

“I expected the departure of Robin van Persie. We all expected it. It was ‘obvious’.

“But the Alex one, it was a surprise! He is 24 years old, he has three years remaining on his contract. I still do not understand. It is huge loss for the club.

“When you see the two best players of last season leave, you have a lot of questions. Sometimes in the street the fans talk to me. I can understand they are upset. I am just like them, I don’t understand everything.

“At Arsenal you come back after holidays, you make preparations, and you see two players leave and the season resumes – it has been like that since I have been at the club. I am used to it now.

“I am the last player from the 2007 starting XI remaining. In May, I watched Manchester City show off. I watched at Samir [Nasri] and Gael [Clichy] lifting the trophy.

“That gave me desire for it. Were they right to leave? Yes. But when they left, we didn’t know.”

Sagna then cast doubt over his own future by claiming Arsenal are yet to approach him over a new contract, despite the fact he has less than two years to run on his current deal.

He then refused to rule out the prospect of leaving himself, but insists he is concentrating on getting fit before worrying about his future.

“My own situation? At the end of the season, I will have one year remaining,”

“Has the club contacted me about an extension? No, no one.”

“Could I be tempted to leave? I just want to play again and be good again with Arsenal so far.

“Then, we will see. Each person has his own destiny.”

On a slightly more positive note for Arsenal fans, Sagna is nearing a return to action and revealed he hopes to be back pushing for a first team place shortly after the international break.

“One week ago I resumed training with ball. I hoped to be back just after international break, but it will be too close,” he said.

“I missed have missed four months twice [in the last year], so I need to be perfectly fit.”
