Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger plans to holds talks with frustrated defender Bacary Sagna over a new contract, according to the Daily Mail.

The French right back has voiced his concerns over the clubs decision to sell it’s star players in recent summers, with Robin van Persie and Alex Song following the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy out the Emirates door in the last 15 months alone.

“I expected the departure of Robin van Persie. We all expected it. It was ‘obvious’.

“But the Alex one, it was a surprise! He is 24 years old, he has three years remaining on his contract. I still do not understand. It is huge loss for the club.

“When you see the two best players of last season leave, you have a lot of questions. Sometimes in the street the fans talk to me. I can understand they are upset. I am just like them, I don’t understand everything.

“At Arsenal you come back after holidays, you make preparations, and you see two players leave and the season resumes – it has been like that since I have been at the club. I am used to it now.

“I am the last player from the 2007 starting XI remaining. In May, I watched Manchester City show off. I watched at Samir [Nasri] and Gael [Clichy] lifting the trophy.

“That gave me desire for it. Were they right to leave? Yes. But when they left, we didn’t know.”

Sagna also questioned his own future at the club and hinted he could be the next big-name to leave north London, and claims the Gunners are yet to approach him over a new deal, with his current contract running out in 2014.

“My own situation? At the end of the season, I will have one year remaining,”

“Has the club contacted me about an extension? No, no one.”

“Could I be tempted to leave? I just want to play again and be good again with Arsenal so far.

“Then, we will see. Each person has his own destiny.”

However, the Daily Mail claim Arsene Wenger is confident he can persuade the 29-year-old to commit his future to the club and has ordered Arsenal officials to open contract talks with the players representatives immediately.

Sagna has twice been named in the Premier League team of the year during his time in England and is widely regarded as one of the best in his position, so would certainly be in demand next summer should he be allowed to run his deal down to it’s final year.

But Wenger is keen to avoid that situation and wants to tie the player down to a fresh contract as soon as possible.
