[Teams] Moldova vs England: Chamberlain & Cleverley Start

By  Published: 7th September 2012

England’s road to the 2014 Brazil World Cup starts tonight as they take on Moldova at the Zimbru Stadium.

Arsenal youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain starts on the left wing with Manchester United’s Nathan Cleverley also given a chance to impress, and he’s expected to play in the ‘hole’ behind Tottenham striker Jermaine Defoe who is preferred to Danny Welbeck up front.

Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard captains the side and is joined in midfield by Frank Lampard, with James Milner preferred to Theo Walcott on the right.

As expected, Leighton Baines comes in for the injured Ashley Cole while Joleon Lescott gets the nod ahead of Gary Cahill to play alongside John Terry at the back. Glen Johnson retains his place at right back.

Here is the full line-up

England Team

Hart; Johnson, Terry, Lescott, Baines; Milner, Gerrard, Lampard, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Cleverley; Defoe.

Subs: Walker, Ruddy, Bertrand, Cahill, Carrick, Jagielka, Walcott, Sturridge, Welbeck, Butland
