Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has responded to rumours linking him with Didier Drogba and has hinted he could be interested if the strikers situation changes.

The Ivorian hitman left Chelsea for Shanghai Shenhua on a free transfer this summer after eight highly-successful years at Stamford Bridge. His final kick as a Blues player secured the champions league trophy for the club for the first time in their history after his penalty completed a shoot-out victory over Bayern Munich.

However, his time in China hasn’t gone according to plan with the Drogba caught in the middle of a power struggle at the Super League club and it was reported recently that Drogba was looking into the possibility of being released from his deal.

Those reports were quickly played down by the strikers UK management company and Drogba insisted he was committed to playing for Shanghai, but reports continued to link Gunners boss Arsene Wenger with a move.

While many other websites are reporting that Wenger has now ‘ruled out’ or ‘denied interest in’ Drogba, from the quotes published on Sky Sports News, it seems to me that Arsene hasn’t completely ruled out anything.

When asked if he was planning on making a move for Drogba, Wenger is quoted as saying by Sky Sports:

“At the moment no. In my opinion he is not free. He has just left England,”

“I don’t know about the situation because he came out with a completely different statement.

“You hear he might go to Real Madrid – but then he says ‘I am staying in China’. Is it just because he wants to be paid off? I don’t know.”

At the moment no“….I know Arsene can give cryptic answers to questions that can be interpreted differently from time-to-time but does that sound like he’s completely ruled out a move or denied interest in the player? It doesn’t to me.

It sounds like Arsene knows he CAN’T make a move for Drogba even if he wanted to because he’s still under contract with the Chinese club and the Frenchman also sounds a little confused as to what Drogba’s intentions are.

Should Drogba’s situation change and he get’s released from his contract, i’m sure Wenger would be keen to talk, as would many others managers for that matter.

However, i’m still of the opinion that if Drogba did become available again and want a return to the Premier League, there is only one place he’d end up and that’s Chelsea.
